Just dropping in to say it's possible to own a #car *and* prefer getting around by other modes most of the time.

Habituation to #driving is not an insurmountable obstacle to reducing #automobile dependency and creating safer, greener, more resilient cities. Habits can be broken if the right supports are available at the right time.

Agreed. Even in our 70s, we try to walk more than drive. We only drive when required to shop, usually under 400kms/month. In summer we get out several times a day with the dog.

But it helps that we live in a small town about 1 km from the main street and have less traffic than urban areas. Makes walking more pleasant and safer.

Poor urban planning, however, encourages vehicle-dependent sprawl even in our small community.
