The odds are low that in any given year a storm big enough to knock out our grid, take down the internet and disable our GPS and other satellites will strike earth.
But it’s a near certainty that some form of this catastrophe will happen someday.
And whether it happens next year or in a century, we need to be ready.

We are entering a period of peak activity for our sun–the apex of its 11-year cycle will occur in mid 2024.
Just as earth has hurricane seasons, it’s fair to say that we are entering a solar-storm season.
“I don’t think we’re going to get knocked back into the Stone Age, but there are significant events that could occur,” says Ian Cohen, heliophysicist. “We have to be ready.”
