#ClimateCrisis costing $16m an hour in #ExtremeWeather damage

Analysis shows at least $2.8 trillion in damage from 2000 to 2019 through worsened #storms, #floods & #heatwaves

The study is the first to calculate a global figure for the increased costs directly attributable to #HumanCaused #GlobalWarming.

Climate crisis costing $16m an hour in extreme weather damage, study estimates

Analysis shows at least $2.8tn in damage from 2000 to 2019 through worsened storms, floods and heatwaves

The Guardian

The study found avg costs of $140B/year 2000-2019, though the figure varies year to year. The latest data shows $280B in costs in 2022. The researchers said lack of data, particularly in low-income countries, meant the figures were likely to be seriously underestimated. Additional #ClimateCosts, such as from crop yield declines & #SeaLevel rise, were also not included.

The global costs of extreme weather that are attributable to climate change - Nature Communications

Neman and Noy estimate the global climate change costs of extreme weather and find that US $$\$$$ $ 143 B/yr of the costs of extreme events is attributable to climatic change. The majority of this is due to human loss of life.
