Even though this is a peaceful demonstration, we are met with massive police presence. The police proceed to detain and charge the activists and scientists. We would rather not be disturbing people's lives but we are in a global emergency, and the richest among us (with their massively high luxury emissions) are by far those most responsible for the catastrophic impacts of climate breakdown.
We do this because we cannot sit idle as the massive devastation of climate breakdown becomes an ever more present reality. Wildfires all across Europe and Canada. Floods in New York. Entire towns and cities destroyed in Lybia.
The ultra rich are adding fuel to the flames with their luxury emissions, and the Danish government still refuses to ban their massively polluting private jets.
We demand a BAN ON PRIVATE JETS. #StayGrounded
@ScientistRebellionDK Mate, you can demand all you want - good rhetoric is fun. But while your/our governments are run by the people who profit from that stuff, nothing will ever change.
Bring back Mdm Guillotine., and go properly 1792. Then you might get a 'fresh start'.
(And yes, this post has almost inevitably got me onto a bunch of GCHQ watch-lists, right there/here. Hey ho.)
I think my point was stop whinging about it, unless you have a way to change it.
@ScientistRebellionDK @antiprofa
Does your proposed ban on private jets include air ambulances carrying transplant organs?
(I get the impulse to lash out at billionaire oligarchs, and the urgent need to cut fossil fuel emissions, but some nuance would be welcome β¦)
In a previous interview with "60 Minutes," Gates said, "I probably have one of the highest greenhouse gas footprints on the planet" and that his "personal flying alone is gigantic."
