They bathe the streets and buildings in colorfull light. And also the laundry.
But also on daytime they are extremly interesting to look at. Each neon sign is a complex and unique work of art.
Some of them extend far into the street and are held in place by a complex construction of steel cables. Like this one in Kowloon City, near the former legendary Kowloon Walled City.
Oh, you haven't heard of Kowloon Walled City? It was a ungoverned piece of land in Hong Kong, but also the most densely populated spot in the world. 33,000 people lived on 2.6 ha in 300 buildings. The height of the illegal built houses was limited to 14 storeys. - Because it was located in the final approach to the only runway of Kai Tak Airport. Oh, there is one thing I completely forgot about these neon signs: Not only do they have beautiful artwork and colourful lights - they also have animations!
And every evening the whole city becomes a light show. Over 40 skyscrapers take part in the Symphony of Lights. It is very impressive but also quite unsatisfying, as the lights in the different buildings are very poorly synchronised, with delays of up to 3 seconds or so. The video only shows a small part of the show, but I love the person walking up the stairs, as usually everyone in Hong Kong takes the elevator.
Ihr habt euch also für Kowloon City entschieden. Gute Wahl: Ein gemütlicher Stadtteil mit größtenteils sehr niedrigen Häusern und vielen kleinen spezialisierten Geschäften.
Im Kowloon City Market hatten die meisten Stände schon geschlossen als wir damals ankamen. Aber auch die leeren Stände und deren Konstruktionen waren spannend.
Einge Geschäfte am Straßenrand haben bei Dämmerung auch schon angefangen das letzte Obst zu reduzieren um es noch vor Ladenschluss abverkauft zu bekommen.
In dieser Straße gab es sehr viele bunte thailändische Geschäfte und Restaurants, und die Nachbarstraße war voll mit Reifenhändlern, Waschanlagen und Autowerkstätten.
So, Bushaltestelle, vorerst genug Fotos von Kowloon City, es soll wo anders hin gehen!

#FensterFreitag aus der Doppelstockstraßenbahn in der Wendeschleife North Point.
Ich hatte ja gefragt, was für Fotos aus Hong Kong ich als nächstes posten soll. Ihr habt nach Gärten gefragt. Es gibt viele Parks, aber ich habe davon nicht so viele Fotos. Ich werte das aber mal als Frage nach mehr grün und weniger Stadt. Hong Kong ist zwar eine riesige Stadt, hat aber auch sehr viele kleine und große Inseln. Ab Central ist man zum Beispiel in 20 Minuten mit der Fähre auf Lamma Island: Eine dünn besiedelte Fischerinsel. Auf den fast 14 km² leben nur etwas mehr als 6000 Menschen
Der Ort 索罟灣 (Sok Kwu Wan) ist für die Seafood Restaurants bekannt, die sich an der Wasserkante entlangreihen. Als wir im Februar da waren, waren aber viele davon geschlossen oder fast nicht besucht. Die strikten Einreisebedingungen wegen Corona wurden erst wenige Tage zuvor gelockert. Wir schienen an viele Orten die ersten Touristinnen nach 3 Jahren zu sein.
Verlässt man diesen Hauptweg wird es schnell sehr dörflich, und die Hunde schlafen am Strand

Was mich fasziniert sind all die vielen kleinen, individuellen Läden. Wenn man sich hier in den Städten die Läden anschaut, dann sind das fast nur noch irgendwelche Ketten. Onlineshopping hat es den Fachgeschäften hier extrem schwer gemacht.
@electronic_eel OK, Geschäfte und Märkte kommt auf die Liste. Da habe ich glaube einiges an Fotos.

@einsweniger I had some kind of fear of elevators. But Hong Kong fixed this for me.
