Currently going through my photos from Hong Kong. I will post some of them here in the next few days.
More windows than pixels.
Each of the windows is unique

And there are still some iconic neon lights in the streets of Hong Kong
They bathe the streets and buildings in colorfull light. And also the laundry.
But also on daytime they are extremly interesting to look at. Each neon sign is a complex and unique work of art.
Some of them extend far into the street and are held in place by a complex construction of steel cables. Like this one in Kowloon City, near the former legendary Kowloon Walled City.
Oh, you haven't heard of Kowloon Walled City? It was a ungoverned piece of land in Hong Kong, but also the most densely populated spot in the world. 33,000 people lived on 2.6 ha in 300 buildings. The height of the illegal built houses was limited to 14 storeys. - Because it was located in the final approach to the only runway of Kai Tak Airport. One of the busiest airports in the world at the time. Including an extremely difficult approach - over Kowloon Walled City. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kowloon_Walled_City

Oh, there is one thing I completely forgot about these neon signs: Not only do they have beautiful artwork and colourful lights - they also have animations!
And some of them have very glowingly names
And every evening the whole city becomes a light show. Over 40 skyscrapers take part in the Symphony of Lights. It is very impressive but also quite unsatisfying, as the lights in the different buildings are very poorly synchronised, with delays of up to 3 seconds or so. The video only shows a small part of the show, but I love the person walking up the stairs, as usually everyone in Hong Kong takes the elevator.

Ihr habt euch also für Kowloon City entschieden. Gute Wahl: Ein gemütlicher Stadtteil mit größtenteils sehr niedrigen Häusern und vielen kleinen spezialisierten Geschäften.
@ubahnverleih … I now want a bouncy thing on rails driving through cities. Tram-poline.

@ubahnverleih now I'd just need tram tracks somewhere....
@ubahnverleih I’m very suspicious of elevators, so I’m taking steps to avoid them 😬
@einsweniger I had some kind of fear of elevators. But Hong Kong fixed this for me.

@ubahnverleih Extremely elaborate – I’d never really looked closely at a neon sign like this before – wow!

The way the word Plaza is made out of just two glass tubes, Pl-aza (with some bits masked off with tape)!

And even within that, the two ‘a’s are made from completely different twists and turns

And those are nothing compared to the complexity of the Chinese characters above!

@transponderings there is a great arte documentary about the tradition of these. But i could only find the german version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=queiVaVuhg4
