Watched "Hype!” last night. I'd seen it before, but it's been at least 10 years.

It's a really amazing snapshot of a scene/culture that went off like an atom bomb after years of being super insular. I like that it shows everyone as humans.

But this struck me. Not the first to mention it, of course. But all of these bands mattered to me.

Singers for the "big 4" Seattle bands.

1. Nirvana: Gone (1994, 27)
2. Alice in Chains: Gone (2002, 34)
3. Soundgarden: Gone (2017, 52)
4. Pearl Jam: still with us, thankfully.

In Hype!, Kurt had died, but not the others. Still in the middle of it. Still felt like things were "happening.”

It is a great contrast to see the world imagined, and to know the world revealed.

Oh, and Mia Zapata was amazing. A Reminder.

@funkatron putting that Mad Season album on usually hails the beginning of fall for me.
@janl I come back to Dirt every year or so for a couple weeks, living in that place. I don’t know if it’s good for me 😬 but gosh I feel those songs in my bones. It is a memento mori type thing, maybe. It reminds me of the fragility of life, and how many people I’ve known who we’re pulled into that darkness. How that darkness wraps itself around you and contorts you into something you are not. The realization. The emptiness.
