Advertising revenue continues to plummet at the deadbird site, demonstrating that more and more companies understand the damage they do to themselves by supporting Musk's toxic enterprise.

But journalists continue to support his vile operation, by pouring their work into the place. They are directly helping someone who makes common cause with democracy's enemies. It's sickening.

US ad revenue at Musk's X declined each month since takeover -data

Monthly U.S. ad revenue at social media platform X has declined at least 55% year-over-year each month since billionaire Elon Musk bought the company formerly known as Twitter in October 2022, according to third-party data provided to Reuters.

@dangillmor But Linda said it's all going great...
@dangillmor I suspect that the continued presence on X/Twitter of those who make their living as journalists is another indicator of the sad state of journalism in which any failing noted about one party must be balanced by presenting some supposed failing in the other, with no interest in getting to the essential truth of events, along with a focus on personalities rather issues.
@Leisureguy @dangillmor Yeah, practical example is that article itself as it uses the picture of chief hater to cause emotional response on as much people as possible. It's essentially a clickbait article, even while the content might be relevant.

@dangillmor Linda Y. humiliated herself at Code 2023 the other day.

Gaslighter-in-Chief, completely incapable of honestly defending X, or Elon's actions.

To use a dam wall analogy....
The structural failure happens slowly, then all at once.

@dangillmor it was about six weeks between when Elmo took over and when I left the birdsite and in that time I blocked every single account I saw with promoted content. By the end I had blocked every major brand and was getting some weird obscure stuff.
@dangillmor It's laziness gimmie them clicks "journalism". Let em stay there.
@dangillmor I hear MyPillow is looking for a cheap venue.
@dangillmor it’s so upsetting. And they do so while complaining about Twitter on their news shows.
@dangillmor it all started going down hill with the hiring of he’s new CEO
@dangillmor Deport Musk and Murdoch. They are the real criminal immigrants.
@dangillmor I mostly stopped using Twitter when I joined Mastodon then deleted my account to insure I would stop looking at it. If the people say anything truly important I’ll hear about it elsewhere.
@dangillmor he's not dead, he's just pining
@dangillmor Maybe if we stopped supporting the journalists and outlets who stay on X, things will change
@dangillmor he has the same DNA as Bill Gates..
@dangillmor i´ve read the article and it feels like the bad bad things are already cutted out and it still does not make XXX look good. I mean they asked them for what they think about the graph and they declined to add a comment. And then at the end they mention the plan of the everything app like it had any chance to succeed, i mean the US states that had said to allow them the act as a bank get pressured from others to stop. It seems like they wanted to make a positive article and failed.
@dangillmor @aral Journalist want an audience. Where else can they find it? They’ll stay until twitter’s reach numbers go well below competitors.
@dangillmor He's also removing headlines from links to news sites, as he dislikes people linking out (as obviously in following the link, they're leaving his site) - instead, he wants people to write a summary of the article in their post (oh, and subscribe to Premium to waffle on / rant for 25k characters ~3,570 - 6,250 words).
@dangillmor I’ll take how to destroy shareholder value for $200 thanks Alex
@dangillmor Alas, local governments too. Much public discourse in Nashville is still going on there: councilmembers, the new mayor, all posting there. My friends who aren't on it for good reason can't be part of those exchanges. It seems to me that some of those governmental postings - not all - are now a breach of open records rules in Nashville.
