Ahh, so the US *can* declare vehicles too dangerous for public use -- but only if it's a niche product (in this case, one involved in 4 deaths over 3 years).

It still won't touch the oversized trucks/SUVs that endanger all Americans who walk, bike, or use a smaller car.

@davidzipper @wordshaper sometimes I think a miata would be fun, but then again...
@wordshaper @dustinrue @davidzipper Literally this 😰 I sometimes pause near those trucks and use my hand to emphasize that my head is nearly the same height as those front ends, and just maybe make it clear to SOMEONE that I would DIE if one of those monster trucks hit me. They need their own license classification 🫣
@tyvani @dustinrue @davidzipper They definitely ought to be licensed differently and restricted on the roads. At least here in Boston there are very few of these monsters, though tbh I'm waiting for the first one to be Storrowed. (I will laugh so, *so* much when that happens)
@wordshaper @tyvani @davidzipper I think what upsets me as much if not more is that crossover+ dominates the market to the point where many automakers are *only* selling crossover+ sized vehicles. I want a midsize sedan, they almost do not exist any more

@dustinrue @tyvani @davidzipper I'm really looking forward to five or six years from now, when all the people who only drive used cars because they're forced to drive but don't make enough money to buy one of these wheeled houses find that there are basically *no* affordable and sensible used cars because we stopped building sensible new cars for so long.

Nobody pulling $30k/year wants one of these monsters, new or used.

@wordshaper @tyvani @davidzipper buying them is one thing, supplying them with fuel is another
@dustinrue @tyvani @davidzipper Yep. One of the many reasons people with modest-to-crap income don't want these things.
