Battery electric cars take a market share of 83%, so far this year. Gasoline and diesel down to 4% together.
My take from that graph is not that people have started buying EV en masse, they've quit buying new cars altogether.
I would be curious to see the same chart, but for used cars. Pretty sure it runs reverse to this one, with diesel and gas cars close to 100%.
Unless Norway invested massively in public transportation, people are still buying cars. I'm sure there's a 10x increase on imports of used cars from neighboring countries.
Net gain for the climate: close to zero...
Actually, Norwegian used-car-dealers are now exporting used cars to Eastern Europe!
The 2022 boom for EVs was because the government started charging VAT for them from 1.1.2023.
People buy 1/5th the new cars they used to buy, and from what you say, they do not buy used car either.
How are they getting around?
I mean, unless they all went public transit, they still have to move around on their own!
Trains? Bikes? ...Uber!? 😂
Norwegians aren't buying much new or used anything these days. We have over 100,000 families lining up at private charities to get food for their tables - and the charities are running out of food before they can give to everyone in line.
Norway has over 10% of the population under the poverty line! Most are on state pensions.
The government has tanked NOK, so imports are expensive.
And yet the central bank increased the interest rate.
We can afford little.
😔
So the chart presented as a victory over oil companies and a win for the climate is merely a proof of a population reaping the rewards of enduring capitalism...
Just like Canada, eh?
Yes! As usual, we are late to the party, but homelessness is on the rise, food banks are empty, prices of food and housing are rising rapidly... our slide to the right is going very well, our government is investing in oil production more than ever!
We have a bright future in front of us! Short, but bright!
Hard to find ethical politicians,, let alone ones that want the best for their country instead of just for themselves... .just about everywhere.
