Yet another day in Manchester sifting through the drivel of the Tory Conference. All we really want to know is whether the HS2 rail link will come to our city or not. As we wait for this announcement that never seems to properly arrive, we can't help but notice how far from reality the Tories have actually become. It's as if they've all been radicalised online. We could be playing crackpot conspiracy bingo again today. Eyes down for a full house.

@ProjectFearlessness One thing for sure, despite all the "the country needs this" rhetoric, I know it'll never come near my country.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@Roadwarrior29
I know. If they'd started HS2 in Inverness, I wonder if they'd think it was OK to stop when they got halfway to London.
@ProjectFearlessness @Roadwarrior29 - Well, at least it would have started IN Inverness and not somewhere around Aviemore. I think that it would be up and running as far as the border by now.
@tompearce49 @Roadwarrior29
Yes. I suppose the Scottish equivalent would be to promise a high speed rail line from Inverness to London and then cut the funding when the line got to Blackpool. That's far enough south, the rest is a waste of money.

@ProjectFearlessness @tompearce49 @Roadwarrior29 I think the whole HS2 business is just a distraction to divert attention away from all the other policies they’re trying to slip under the radar.

It is ridiculous to suggest that at a conference held in Manchester, they would seriously contemplate cancelling HS2 to Manchester .

It sounds ridiculous to suggest such a thing, but I really think he's got to do it now. If he doesn't make an announcement, we will all want to know why they have spent the whole conference period briefing us about it.
But you're definitely right that the whole thing serves as a huge distraction
