So I stumbled onto this earlier this year renting a DVD of it from the unusual record and curiosities shop I've come to occasionally haunt.

I sought out a copy for myself after viewing it because, well I'm not exactly sure. This film got in my head. Incredibly problematic art.

Tonight's Burd's #31NightsOfHorror pick is one of those films that I just never quite got around to watching before but I have listened to many a podcast recap and review. This has resulted in me having a very specific idea in my head of this film but I acknowledge it is a pretty glaring blindspot.

It's going to feel really good to finally check it off the list later tonight.

I went to look at my original review of The Evil Dead as I was getting ready to start it up. And you know what? It is a really satisfying feeling to read a piece of writing from a few years ago that I still 100% stand by.

Like, if I had to write it again today, I wouldn't change a got dang thing.

It's not terribly profound but I certainly am terribly proud of it.

A review of The Evil Dead (1981)

Love | Like | Indifferent | Dislike Love a cabin in the woods. Watching a 4k of a 16mm film is weirdly cool. I've said in the past, this movie scared the shit out of me as a kid. I turned it off at the porch swing shot my first time watching because it creeped me out so bad, but that shot is burned into my head. The cinematography and editing works so damn well so a low budget production. Cut down, balls to the wall horror, but seriously the tree doesn't age well. Shout out to perfect Cheryl, fifth

So I've come to the conclusion that killing is not Michael Myers only hobby.

Dude fucking *lives* to drive.

He got behind the wheel in that first film and he's been hooked ever since. We have to assume that since no one taught him, that his driving skill is also inherently a manifestation of his evil.
