@picard prolly mk.absturztau.be, but there is no fast instance. Some are faster than ff.s, but they all have issues. I dont know about other users but this instance's move to ScyllaDB hasn't done anything for me. Also getting more of those internal errors while posting.

@ralphwrecksfirefish My experience is... mixed.

Sometimes, it just gives almost constant errors, reactions don't process, posts don't post (or they do, but twice). Or even timelines don't load and just show errors.

But other times it is OK, and feels much faster than recent months. Things load quickly, as they should.

But strangely, it's not like certain hours it is bad. I'll have a timeline refuse to load 3-4 times when I refresh, then suddenly it will load instantly - it was not like that before, where it was just consistently very slow.

And that's leaving aside all the failures loading antennas 😕

Anyway all that is to say, it's not just you. I hope your new place does work more smoothly for you.

@picard sameee! I'm dealing with many of the same issues since the move to ScyllaDB. I don't expect to have a much better experience elsewhere, either. It just feels like firefish has a ways to go before it's as smooth as we'd like it to be. Hoping it'll get better with time, though.

I've also been on Misskey, and while it looks and feels dated and lacks the edit feature, at least it loads quickly.

@ralphwrecksfirefish That's interesting. I assumed it was simply the size of this place, and that it is struggling with optimisation with so many people using it - as before, back when I joined and it was still Calckey with like less than 500 people or whatever, it was smooth and totally good - only began grinding down when the number of people increased. Seem to remember registrations being paused around 1k people because of performance, and I feel it never recovered from that... But a shame if all the others are suffering similarly too.

@picard yeah, that's why I tried joining 4-5 servers to see which is smoothest, but at one point or another, I suffered undesirable loading times and errors occured. None of them are as fubar as ff.s is at times, but while Misskey performs fairly well even via Tor, Firefish tends to feel like you're running Tor even when you aren't. Bummer.

@ralphwrecksfirefish Hmm, that is a shame. I am not sure there have been any huge features in recent months that should cause such a consistent level of performance like that. I mean it really did feel great here earlier in the year, had absolutely no complaints at all before it started to grow so much - been assuming everywhere else is like that and it's just that there are so many people using this place.

Right now I just can't really be bothered investing any time looking elsewhere, so I'll probably stick it out here and hope it improves for now out of laziness 😄
