Dug the Rift out of storage for the first time in years and investigated the current state of Oculus on PC (spoiler: miserable), but did install Horizon Worlds and accidentally found myself in a laser tag arena with a bunch of real people running around shooting each other and chatting over the mic. It was a surprisingly fun discovery.

Of course, such an experience is only possible with hand controllers, so not something I expect to see on visionOS 🫤

@stroughtonsmith

Fingers crossed the game controller support for iOS devices carries over to visionOS.

Have to say the rumours of Apple making a bid for F1 streaming rights immediately made me think how amazing that would be with an app that allowed you to select which on-car camera you want to watch the race through...

@richardstocks Isn’t that already possible with F1 TV pro?
@eerko I meant a dedicated app for visionOS for a full immersive experience. Is that already available for another VR/AR system? I have no idea.

@richardstocks god I would hate Apple forever if they did that. F1TV is like the 1 good sports streaming service with reasonable pricing, works almost everywhere in the world and has no shitty rules like blackouts or anything.

F1TV also already lets you choose any car for its onboard camera as well as both the Sky (🤢) commentary or the F1TV commentary.

And the cars are already at their bandwidth limits so higher quality live video is unlikely.

@richardstocks I do think that there are some interesting potential VR apps for F1 though. Something like a virtual pitwall where you can layout the main broadcast + a few onboards + the timing screen broadcast + track map broadcast in a virtual space would be neat.

There are some PC apps that do similar but I haven't liked how they work on a monitor.

@richardstocks @stroughtonsmith gaming controller support from ios is already built in to visionos, they even showed that in the keynote....the only type of gaming controllers not supported are motion controllers that are used with other VR headsets which is super odd
