Are iron-air batteries the breakthrough renewable energy needs?

Regeneration of iron oxide; making the iron fuel technology a reality

In October 2020, Team Solid and Swinkels Family Brewers brewed the first beers on iron fuel. The iron fuel was burned to produce steam and that steam was use...

@gr3yg00 Sorry for the late reply, I tend to block out social media when I'm researching and writing. Unfortunately, I can't give you an opinion about this without digging in more. It looks like a lot of energy use to recycle and use the recycled material, which makes me wonder about the bottom line benefit. Do we have "green" hydrogen yet? I confess to getting suspicious over slick, corporate videos like this. What's your opinion?
@gdeihl If at all, it only makes sense in industrial settings, I just find it interesting, imho makes sense to research if it is viable.
@gr3yg00 Sure, we should be looking for solutions. I just wish they were based on the obvious that the world is finite, and we have to change our behavior. Tech might or might not buy us some time at this point. Either way, people are already dying needlessly over knowledge we had 50 years ago about GHGs. I remember a time when people talked about conservation.
@gdeihl Sand btw is also an interesting concept for storing heat. Just thought of that, as one of the aspects that made iron sound interesting, is that it is easily available, and sand is even more so.
@gr3yg00 When I wrote the iron article, it was certainly in recognition of its abundance, particularly compared to lithium. It's also more appropriate for grid storage. I'm aware that other technologies like sand are in the conversation, but each one is a deep dive for me. If I make a mistake, it won't be for lack of trying to get the facts right. I wish #Degrowth was a mainstream conversation. The search for more and more is a dead end. New tech just buys us a bit of time, maybe. 1/2
@gr3yg00 I like the concept of #Degrowth a lot. Its principles would solve many related problems, however we don't have the leadership to even talk about it, if they're aware of it at all. I would argue most of us are unhappy in this world as it is, just a few are benefitting disproportionately. Life could be better, but it's human nature to hang onto the devil you know. https://geoffreydeihl.substack.com/p/degrowth-the-vision-we-must-demand

@gdeihl You are not wrong there. If one thing feels to be the same on the left and the right, then it's the desire for a slower, more natural life. Technology is not bad, but we should choose more wisely and not just make everything into products for the sake of money. But that's only my 2 cent of unqualified rambling on the internet ;)
@gr3yg00 Your 2 cent unqualified rambling is legit. After all, technology is pushed on us whether we want it or not. That gives us a right to a voice.
