Quite an interesting, and damning, piece here by Richard #Walker, CEO of #Iceland, of why he is no longer a #Conservative. I have never had that much time for Conservative environmentalism but its disaffection with #Tories is real:

the realisation that Conservatives are not conserving anything [other than their own class/personal interests]

As a business leader, I can no longer support the Tory party

Iceland’s chairman on the current government’s relentless undermining of Britain – and why he ditched his ambition to be a Conservative MP

@pvonhellermannn Did this guy never know what conservatism was about? I mean, come on.
@pvonhellermannn The only thing they care about conserving is their own wealth.
@pvonhellermannn
Other than a white, Christo-fascist patriarchy, they are conserving nothing.
@pvonhellermannn reading 'CEO of Iceland' feels really weird. For a moment I thought that we totally transformed countries into corporations.
@pvonhellermannn tbh, I struggle to empathise with him. I mean, when I read: 'I also believed, as an environmentalist, that conservatism went hand-in-hand with conservation', I can stop but thinking 'Man, it's not the Conservative that have changed, it's you being delusional all time, because you are a rich white entrepreneur that in the end loves capitalism no matter what'

@alx @pvonhellermannn

That and the sentence that preceded it, plus the fact that he wants to be a politician, shows quite clearly how little he understands, even about himself ... although ... at least he has become aware, partially, of his lack of understanding.

"Because I believed, as a business creator, owner and manager, that the Conservatives were the natural party of free enterprise"

@pvonhellermannn I burst out laughing when I heard him say that he‘d thought the Conservatives were the party of business and the environment during an interview this morning. He comes across as unbelievably naive.
@SteveCooke @pvonhellermannn CONservatives - the party for the hard of thinking...
