#ottawa #ottcity is begging people to come downtown to patronize the businesses there, but then detour all the buses down Richmond Road. How much extra fuel are we burning? Detouring and delaying hundreds of buses from the transit-way every weekend? OC Transpo detours hundred of buses carrying thousands of riders qnd burning millions in fuel so that the wealthy Island Park neighbourhood can use the transit-way as a bike path for their performative cycling. This is not resource equity, this is climate arson and greenwashing.
@jonnycargo lots of people use the Parkway, not just wealthy people and not just for recreation, but for transportation. The real problem here, as always is cars. The city could make a lane on Richmond bus-only and allow people to travel in numerous active, safe, and sustainable ways. But instead, it's all about cars and free street parking.
@ceesmidgins Many more people take the bus. We are talking about hundreds of buses a day having an extra 20 minutes or more added to their travel time. Until the LRT is complete, the transit-way should remain open to #octranspo
@jonnycargo I agree, it does have a negative impact on transit. But I disagree that the Parkway is the only solution. We need to make transit and cycling and walking better and driving less convenient. Bus-only lanes would do all of those things.
@ceesmidgins Indeed, we have a bus-lane: the transit-way. But it has been closed off.
Indeed cars are the problem.
Indeed bus-lanes are the solution.
#ottawacity #ottcity stop blocking the bus lane!
