1/3 This week more than 100 #scientists from our company came together for a two day meeting with a main focus on our #sustainability ambitions. A lot of it is internal (and confidential) but I can surely share that I was optimistic when I saw what we already did, what we currently do and what there is in the pipeline. With short, middle and long term targets.
The easy bit is what we have under our direct control (travel, factories etc). The challenge is upstream and downstream.
2/3 Upstream, the #climate and #biodiversity impact from our suppliers. With close collaboration we team up to make steps, not only for the bit they supply to us, but become sustainable across the board. All with #SBT #ScienceBasedTargets. No vague promises, but hard action. Some suppliers are leaders, some are learners and some still have to start. And part of our job is to help them with that. Sharing knowledge and also financial aid. And sometimes replace ingredients with better alternatives

3/3 Downstream the biggest impact is consumers using less energy and use renewables.

The big learning however is that #CarbonTax is urgently needed and that #FossilSubsidy needs to be stopped. With these subsidies and lack of carbon tax, companies are basically punished for going sustainable. Cut those subsidies and introduce carbon tax and the transition will be massively accelerated.

Glad to be working for a company that takes #sustainability serious.

@KFvMalssen uplifting story. Thank you.

what does your company do to #stopfossilsubsidies ? (and what lobby the other way?)
Sorry to be so paranoid, but the events of the last decennium does not make one easily positive on big companies, results of the past... But I really do like positive stories

@CyclesSmiles The lobbying to stop fossil subsidies is a job the higher management has on its plate. We as scientists make sure we work on Science Based Targets, to know what to do and how to do it.
As a company we have allocated serious money to help our suppliers (mostly agricultural) to make the switch, which will be costly in the short term and beneficial in the long term.
There is a huge difference between companies. Also between the big ones and per sector.

@KFvMalssen nice to hear about the sponsoring for producers.

I remain sceptical about lobbying activities until more positive details arise (Sri).

@KFvMalssen Although I do not believe multinationals will save the world, revenues from #CO2tax should be jused to provide company’s and civillians loans free of intrest for investing in energy saving measures. Allso subsedies for production of renewable energy, should be quitted and used for energysaving. That way we will accellerate #energyTransion and fight #climateCrisis at maximum, with full provit for all!
