you know, i watched Bottoms tonight because I was thinking: I better watch this comedy before Oct, because all my movie nights next month are booked with spooky stuff for sure. But it turns out all the blood in the movie leads nicely into Halloween season.

so for those who want to know what to expect from Bottoms (2023)... it's like that scene in Mean Girls when all the girls turn rabid and start attacking each other as animals... that vibe simmers in Bottoms and grows exponentially as it goes on. But it's more sapphic and bloody and wittier.

It's over the top but can also feel truer than more grounded affairs. The movie still holds to a familiar teen comedy formula and has its throwback sensibilities... but manages to feel modern with performances that hold weight despite the campy swings

I'm sure its style will turn some viewers off: those looking for more relaxed laughs. And the resolution could've used some extra padding. A denouement would've done wonders. Still, it's been too long since I had a good time with the kind of movie that ends with bloopers.
