Mastodon #nintendo folks! I was just given a #nintendoswitch. I am very excited, but I know nothing about it! What’re you favorite games? Can I even get into one of the new #Zelda games if I’ve never played Zelda? I already got #animalcrossing for an adorable time sink, but what real games will I love? I’m a big fan of solo play games. #Fallout, #Bioshock, #Cyberpunk, #Portal, #Stray, #Fable2#gaming #videogames ##switch Please help and boost! Bonus points for never needing multiplayer.
@pseudonymsupreme Yes, both Zelda Games, Breath of the wild and Tears of the kingdom can be played when you have never played a zelda game. It would be best to start with Breath of the wild but either way is fine. Animal Crossing is also a top game and you shouldn't miss Mario Kart or Mario Party if you want to play with friends together in one room. I also enjoyed some Pokemon Games on the switch.
@pseudonymsupreme the zelda games are absolutely amazing. if you like pixelart and dungeon crawlers, Children of Morta is recommended!
@jake I do like pixel dungeon crawlers! Thanks.
@pseudonymsupreme If something like the huge open world crawl of BotW/TotK are daunting for your first Zelda, the remake of Link's Awakening is very much accessible and has an incredibly charming look and feel to it.
@pseudonymsupreme vampire survivor is a seemingly weird roguelite but it's so much fun. The Zelda games are super fun. Any of the Mario games. Kirby games are cool too. Stardew valley!
@pseudonymsupreme No previous knowledge necessary to enjoy the Zelda games. Breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom are great. I really enjoyed Hollow Knight, Ape out, West of Loathing, A Short Hike.

@pseudonymsupreme since you have already got many good suggestions I'll throw in an underdog: Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Official Site

The hit RPG returns! From the minds of the bestselling author R.A. Salvatore, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion lead designer Ken Rolston, comes Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. Remastered with stunning visuals and refined ga…

@pseudonymsupreme +1 to https://www.dekudeals.com that site is incredible. Don’t forgot about good indies. I’ve spent hundreds of hours with Stardew Valley and Hades. Monster Hunter Rise is not an indie but it’s a technical marvel on the Switch and I don’t think anyone’s mentioned it yet.

@pseudonymsupreme I have a immense love for Super Mario Odyssey and Pikmin. All four Pikmin games are available on the Switch.
@gumbario I don’t know anything about Pikmin. I’ll have to look it up!
@pseudonymsupreme @gumbario Pikmin 4 is amazing imo. Don’t really need to play the others first.
@gbuell @gumbario Good to know. Just saw 4 while browsing games.
@pseudonymsupreme Like others have mentioned, there are a ton of good indie games on the switch. I personally enjoyed "unravelled 2" and "Far" which is short but beautiful
@hotte I honestly love short games. Not everything needs to be hundreds of hours.
@pseudonymsupreme the first one is FAR: Lone sails and the second one is called FAR: Changing Tides
@pseudonymsupreme There are many choices but I’ll shout out Metroid Prime Remastered as a great version of one of the best games of all time, and if you like Bioshock and Portal I’m sure you’ll love it.
@gbuell Thank you. That’s exciting.
@pseudonymsupreme both moonlighter and hades are fun rogue-like games that have enjoyable play cycles. Dredge was an unexpectedly fun lovecraft inspired fishing game? Citizen sleeper is a great tabletop role playing game that’s reminiscent of disco Elysium (but less nihilistic). Disco Elysium is also available on switch.
@pseudonymsupreme
I would recommend you try out Link's Awakening as an introduction to #Zelda. It was my introduction to Zelda on Game Boy many years ago, and the remake on Switch is well done.

@pseudonymsupreme Metroid Prime Remastered.

It’s a first person adventure game. True #masterpiece

@pseudonymsupreme The new Zelda games (The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom) don't rely on having played any of the previous Zelda games, so go ahead! TotK is a direct sequel to BotW, so I would suggest playing those two in order, but even that is not a necessity.

As for other games, I also suggest picking up Super Mario Odyssey! That one, along side the Zeldas, are basically must-owns.

@pseudonymsupreme For multiplayer fun, you can't go wrong with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. And Splatoon 3, but note that it only has online multiplayer (unlike the others who also have local multiplayer) and thus requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
If you do subscribe to the service, make sure to download the free NSO games from the eShop: Tetris 99, F-Zero 99, Nintendo Entretainment System - NSO, Super Nintendo Entretainment System - NSO and Game Boy - NSO. If you decide to go for the Expansion to the NSO, you'll also get free access to DLC for MK8D, Splatoon 2 and Animal Crossing New Horizons, as well as Nintendo 64 - NSO, Game Boy Advance - NSO and SEGA Mega Drive - NSO.

Finally, looking at the games you listed, maybe you'll enjoy Metroid Prime Remastered and/or Metroid Dread. The former is likely more your style in terms of gameplay, but both are set in a fantastical sci-fi universe.

For cute games, I also suggest Kirby and the Forgotten Land!

@pseudonymsupreme If you are going to build an island in 'Animal Crossing', I've just restarted mine, so we can barter fruits (if the timezones allow). And I'm a fan of 'Stardew Valley', but maybe too much farming is

Both 'Zeldas' are a must; start with 'Breath of the Wild'.

@tferrer I’m really enjoying animal crossing. It’s adorable. Still figuring my stuff out, but it seems like a way better time sink than phone games. And I got Zelda Breath of the Wild. I’m a few hours in now. Suddenly the world opened up. I have a horse. And I’m loving it!

@pseudonymsupreme Congrats on getting the Switch. It's a handy little platform, no pun intended.

Mine came with Sid Meier's Civilization 6. It's not the best civ in the series, but it's interesting and a definite time sink.

If you enjoy roguelikes, check out Darkest Dungeon.

If you like puzzles &/or programming at all, there's a game based on x86 computing logic called Human Resource Machine.

Zelda's Breath of the Wild is great!

@Zenishi I got Civ and BotW and love em. I haven’t heard of Human Resource Machine. That sounds incredible. Thanks.
