People sometimes ask me how I can remain optimistic that we can address the climate crisis.

This is why: 👇

@janrosenow
I've done an IEA forecast on this. 😄
@MrLee Actually laughing out loud at this 😆
@sallyexactly
When I was making it, I was wondering, will anyone get this? 🤔
@MrLee The nicheness of the joke makes it even more delightful 😉
@janrosenow How much carbon was generated by producing those goods? And how long will they actually last? The big problem is planned obsolescence. If we keep switching cars every 2 years it is actually worse.
@janrosenow these are great but numbers without knowledge of the context can feel very abstract.
How do these compare to a net-zero trajectory? Any chance of putting both on the same graph so I too can feel optimistic?

@janrosenow But the EU alone needs to install some 5000 GW by 2035 for us to have any chance...

@janrosenow it's very easy to remain optimistic if you don't understand the problem.

@janrosenow I'll add this https://about.bnef.com/electric-vehicle-outlook/

The key takeaway there, of course, is how much more fossil fuel is displaced by micromobility than by cars.

Fortunately, a lot of cities and countries are updating their infrastructure so people can choose the best mode of transit, rather than being forced into a car. It's another curve that's trending up. :-)
