If you havenโ€™t heard, we're launching a completely reimagined open-access repository in 2024. Itโ€™s currently under heavy construction. ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿฆบ

In the newest Building the Commons blog, Ian Scott, our developer leading the project, shows why the new repository is vital to the life of the Commons! https://building.hcommons.org/2023/09/26/what-is-a-repository-for/

What Is A Repository For? โ€“ Building the Commons

@hello Immediate sort-of-obvious question: why not Zenodo?
@mike Zenodo runs on InvenioRDM, and while there are some similarities, our user base and intent make us quite different overall.
@mike @hello Hey Mike! I'm the product manager on the Commons and the resident librarian on the team. Zenodo is much more of a traditional repository. It's meant to preserve work, but isn't set up intentionally as a workspace for where work is done. The Commons is very interested in extending our repository to not just be a place for saving and preserving work, but a workspace for OA journals, a location where open peer review can be done, and for the curation of content. I think the intention is quite different, and functionality is currently in development to encourage those uses.
@BatsInLavender Thanks, Bonnie, that's very clear and makes perfect sense. Best wishes for this initiative!
