Found my new thing
@Miriamm that sounds even more fun than the time I got a mother/daughter pair talking about Eve and the serpent. I started explaining about Astarte, Lilith and snake goddesses. Then I went to the bookcase for Robert Graves's mythology books and they made their excuses and left.
@KevinMarks @Miriamm okay, what do I need to know about snake goddesses? (Somewhat familiar with Lilith midrash.)
@WizardOfDocs @Miriamm Graves's Greek Myths book and The White Goddess have a theory of transition from historic matriarchy and snake worship to patriarchy and Greek mythology and later Christianity. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Greek_Myths
It is a bit fanciful but demonisation of Eve and snakes as religious competition is a fun discussion to have with biblical literalists. Graves summaries of the myths are good.
