Me running shortcuts: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!!

Me editing shortcuts: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck.

@matthewcassinelli Next time someone tells you Shortcuts isn't "real programming" you can show them this toot.

@techphotoguy I don't think most programmers spend their time trying to get their text editor to function, it's problems with their code.

Good god I'd love for the issue to be my ability to program and not the program itself

@matthewcassinelli Fair point - as a former software dev who now ends up pounding his head against the Shortcuts editor experience from time to time, you are 100% correct.

I've never used XCode but I can only assume it's not this bad, right? I hope?

@matthewcassinelli Yes, the shortcuts editor is so painful to use when you have to make adjustments to shortcuts, especially to those that are long or include branching. If Apple won’t fix this I wish it were possible for a 3rd party developer to create a better shortcuts editor!
@matthewcassinelli To be honest, on iOS/iPadOS a slightly larger tap region for those variables and text fields would come a long way. On macOS, don't even get me started on the editing experience :(
@tomk What’s wrong on Mac? I am mostly fine there
@matthewcassinelli Is drag and drop fixed already?
@tomk @matthewcassinelli stupid question i have no doubt, but how (on the mac) do i add the bits that usually appear above the keyboard (on iPadOS) (e.g. adding a variable to a table cell) 👀
@keir @tomk right click!
@matthewcassinelli @tomk oh! thank you haha. I really don't know how people build these hugely complicated Shortcuts in this app. I'm trying to do relatively simple stuff and can barely tolerate it 🤣

@keir @tomk The keyboard shortcuts to add common commands are also very nice on Mac. You can also click on an action to select it and then anything you double click to add will go after that point in the list.

Coming from iPad the Mac is more stable, and in general I’ve just learned to think this way – I don’t program otherwise

@matthewcassinelli @tomk I will try to learn those shortcuts for sure - i can see how they can speed things up a bit!
Overall, even on my M1 Max and M2 (and M1 iPad Pro) I find performance gets quite janky and it can be quite crashy too :(
@matthewcassinelli @tomk (no problem with the right click I should clarify, just general venting haha)
@matthewcassinelli eating vs cooking is often like that too :-|
