The Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney in Delaware appears to have caved to political pressure, reversing course from the plea deal and now charging Hunter Biden with gun charges because he was an unlawful drug user. But that “crime” almost never gets charged against people unless they committed violent crimes along with it, and for good reason. Just imagine how many people with guns are also users of controlled substances! This stinks of selective prosecution.
@georgetakei Yes! And, what happened to "the right to bear arms" that Repubs are constantly haranguing about?? We know they otherwise want everyone to have guns.
@Shivadam @georgetakei As long as they’re white cHrî$T¡aN rePutincans.
@georgetakei Just because is not done does not mean he needs to get away with it. Punish him. A minority or poor who did the sane thing more likely is in jail. Crime gets punish. Let him deal with it in prison. Sane for Trump.

There will be no plea deal this time. He is going to go to trial even if Hunter wants a plea deal.

What is weird is how people get personally invested in any of these cases. All of them are getting their due process, none are being persecuted.

It is going to be amusing if they go through the trial and convict and then the judge gives him a similar sentence to what he was getting in the plea deal that blew up.

@georgetakei
Give us some stats along with that.
@TimMaddog @georgetakei I read somewhere, don't remember where so take it with a grain a salt, that there have been around three convictions of people since 2018 for lying on that specific question on the gun paperwork. More have been convicted of course when you add in lying on any of the others.
Lying to ATF on gun-purchase form yields few prosecutions, data shows

Few people are ever prosecuted for lying on a key form required for gun purchases, according to Justice Department records provided to The Fact Checker.

The Washington Post
The Gun Charges Against Hunter Biden Are Unusual. Here’s Why.

The heart of the federal case against the president’s son — that he lied about drug use on a federal form when he purchased a handgun — is not typically the basis for a stand-alone prosecution.

The New York Times

@georgetakei He should be treated the same as any other defendant, but really, I don't care that much.

If he is the sacrificial lamb it sucks, but from what I understand he never claimed innocence.

He should probably plead guilty and let the court decide on appropriate punishment.

@georgetakei televise the court appearance and have his defence team bring it up, in a public forum.
@georgetakei These charges are the equivalent of a Matador's red cloak. They serve to show that the prosecutors are doing something without really doing anything. Both sides are left vaguely satisfied/unsatisfied.
You have to see it through the eyes of the christofascists. They have to project for Donnie, so if Hunter isn't being sentenced to life for this crime it is means Donnie is being selectively prosecuted.
@georgetakei What will make this particularly interesting is that deep red country recently found the law in question to be unconstitutional (https://www.reuters.com/legal/drug-user-cannot-be-barred-owning-guns-us-court-rules-2023-08-10/), but the "shall not be infringed" crowd won't like that precedent being brought up in defense of a Biden.
Drug user cannot be barred from owning guns, US court rules

A federal appeals court on Wednesday ruled that a decades-old law prohibiting users of illegal drugs from owning firearms was unconstitutional as applied to the case of a marijuana user, the latest fallout from a U.S. Supreme Court ruling last year that expanded gun rights.

@georgetakei - Republicans want everyone to own guns except for Hunter Biden.
@georgetakei I demand the same charges be brought against kid rock and EVERY trumper that's ever smoked a joint. Whether they inhaled or not.

@georgetakei Hunter Biden was trafficking in his Dad's name and this is the cost of that unsavory business.

And also it takes two sides to make a plea deal. It fell apart when the judge pointed out that the prosecution and the defense didn't have a shared understanding of the deal.

@georgetakei This could lead to the wholesale charging of almost all militias.
@georgetakei I wonder how many guns Don Jr owns. 🤔
The whole world knows that he's a drug user. He's shown us on X.
Did he admit that when he purchased his gun collection?
