Im a doctor without my own primary care.

My doctor resigned abruptly when mask mandates were dropped. (Prescient)

His replacement is on indefinite medical leave.

Their replacement is now also on 6 weeks medical leave.

Everyone in Charge of medi$ine in the U.S. couldnt run a lemonade stand.

The cascade effect is real.

#medicine #WearAMask #COVID19 #latestagecapitalism #latestagestupidity #primarycare

Notably, the 2nd doctor there actually went virtual appointments only,

but because they have a kid in public school, theyve now had COVID at least 3 times.

Really myopic shit going on out there in the name of "normality".

#WearAMask #COVID19 #CovidIsNotOver

I too went virtual, but unlike everyone else, I went ahead and gutted my post-birth fetuses like fish to avoid them as vectors of disease.

What?

Thats murder?

I was told by some white congresscritter we were allowed to do that now.

[Obligatory I have no kids and im joking, NS(d)A(p) ]

@hannu_ikonen

Had my yearly physical today. Rocked my N95. Waiting room was empty, & they got me in quickly so I didn't feel the need to go wait outside. One staffer behind the front desk was actually masked! (surgical šŸ˜• )

A couple of minutes into my session with the NP, she asked, "Would you like me to mask?" "Yes, please." (Or, I think, you could just mask w/o asking.) (Surgical again, but I'll take what I can get.) Nurse came back with my flu vax—masked. 😊

2 points! Peer pressure FTW!

@hannu_ikonen
I refuse to call this behavior normalcy. I call it Vichy.

@hannu_ikonen

we were excited to get a notice from a clinic we sometimes can get into that a new doctor would soon start accepting family group patients - it's just about impossible to get a GP here, and we'd been on their waiting list for 5 years

only a week later saying sorry, out on sick leave indefinitely

we've heard she was a locum hospitalist in Nanaimo General, on a 3rd infection which has flattened her, and as BC barely pays for virtual visits, not worth doing clinics

@hannu_ikonen I feel sorry for "the 2nd doctor there"
@hannu_ikonen Five infections max as a thumb rule has a very definite timeline associated with it.
@graydon @hannu_ikonen I read a headline (citing a study that didn't seem to back this up) saying "after 10 infections, all the mice were dead."
@bjornsdottirs @hannu_ikonen Yup. There is a definite upper limit to the number of survivable COVID infections. (There's some indication that having homogeneous copies of the HLA-B*15:03 gene might guarantee you're going to be asymptomatic; so far as I know, it is not yet known if this means you're going to avoid damage. And HLA-B*15 frequency is about 15% of the population overall so not enough to keep civilization running.)

@hannu_ikonen

Good luck. I am in a specialty practice where primary care is done in the home.

My practice sold out to venture capitalists at the start of the year, and it's been horrible ever since.

Apparently, they bought several other different types of providers but kept them separate businesses and turned into an ACO.

My health has declined as a result of the care.

We are looking for a new practice.

It can be daunting, esp if you have special needs like me.

@paul @hannu_ikonen Biden has sucked for COVID, but he is taking action on private equity buying up and wrecking everything, specifically in medicine, for example: https://open.substack.com/pub/mattstoller/p/cha-ching-lina-khan-attacks-private
"Cha-Ching!" Lina Khan Attacks Private Equity in Health Care

FTC Chair Lina Khan is getting more aggressive, targeting individual Amazon executives, and seeking to stop a brazen scheme to monopolize health care in Texas. Private equity is big mad.

@hannu_ikonen

Wait, you actually had a PCP?

What a luxury. My PCP is me.

Fortunately, I'm not an idiot and have correctly diagnosed my own shit for decades and only used doctors to confirm.

Had I left my health up to these numpties, I would be long dead.

Not even joking a little bit.

@hannu_ikonen

even before covid we had a primary care doc around here develop a brain tumor, and the system HE WORKED FOR would not cover his medical needs.

utter dystopia.

@artisanrox @hannu_ikonen I had a doctor who was one of several sisters who had mostly gotten ovarian cancer, they had a gene that was going to give it to everyone in the family with ovaries sooner or later. She had to fight until she was exhausted to get a hysterectomy. They were willing to let her get cancer and treat that, but not pay for what they saw as a voluntary hysterectomy.

@geographile @hannu_ikonen

frick.

šŸ’°šŸ’°šŸ’°šŸ’°šŸ’°

honestly I think that's what's up with all the Western medical negligence the past few years, especially with covid. Long term care $$$$>>>> prevention

@hannu_ikonen my doctor closed office during covid. Just recently opened back up. Can't afford to see a doctor under a biden presidency barely can afford food. Silverlining is have lost some weight

@ralphk @hannu_ikonen new account, no intro, only posts are non sequiturs trying to crap on Biden?

Welcome to blockville, sock puppet.

@hannu_ikonen When covid tears up a hospital for rich people, we'll get mask mandates (again). As long as the rich aren't afraid, nothing will change.
@hannu_ikonen Do (medical) doctors have an analogous aphorism to the one lawyers do, such as "the physician who treats emself has a fool for a patient"?

@hannu_ikonen

#KochNetwork developed an unparalleled climate denial disinformation system to get corrupt Republicans elected.

It was easy to shift to funding covid disinformation in order to prolong a pandemic, & further destabilize democracy.

@hannu_ikonen Yup, and there’s so much denial. We can’t carry on like this.😔
@hannu_ikonen holy shit d#de mad hugs!!!
@hannu_ikonen @lisamelton It’s even worse for #mentalhealth access, at least here near #Detroit where it was tight before #Covid19 & the pandemic basically drove everyone nuts.
I've made 3 runs in recent years (with no success) at finding a new psychiatrist, psych-focused NP, or anyone qualified who is more confident revising my meds than my PCP. It's a result of having just enough capacity for 2016, but needing MANY more shrinks in 2023. #LateStageCapitalism

@grumpybozo @hannu_ikonen @lisamelton yep New Hampshire as well. I’ve been driving to Massachusetts for mental health care since 2017 and I would have been going before that it’s just that I had to wait to get Medicare so I could go out of state for anything.

It’s so bad out here my mom got sent home from the hospital suicidal because she was 12th in line for a bed at the mental hospital. She died four days later, like she told them she would.

If they had kept her she might have ended up in the men’s prison because that’s where they put people who are involuntarily committed for more than a month or two, they go to the secure psychiatric unit in the mens prison where I assume they are in solitary 23 hours a day because I can’t imagine they mix the coed mental health patients who have never committed a crime with men who are deemed criminally insane. I would never want my mom to go through that. Prison is traumatic.

@hannu_ikonen šŸ¤” but they say the CEOs of these companies many bank because of their amazing skills at running these companies.

Perhaps they mean something other than actually having the businesses provide the goods & services they say they provide to the end users satisfaction as their marketing claims by ā€œamazing management skillsā€
