@Gust3r I'm gonna beat the dead horse here, but yeah I had to follow about 300 before things got good, and to beat my own drum, make your account as followable as possible, add an avi, can be anything doesn't have to be a picture of you, add a bio, pin a post, people are afraid of following bots, personalizing is key

@RickiTarr @Gust3r Yeah, I quickly follow whoever Favorites a post, after a quick scan of their header. Occasionally I Unfollow, for various reasons.

Without the algorithm, you get who you want—not whoever boosts "engagement".

You can say that again. If I search for a hashtag and get no results, is it truly because nobody’s posting about that? Or is it because people are posting about it, yet their posts haven’t made it to my server because of 🙌 federation 🙌?

@Gust3r @RickiTarr to echo what's been said and add an extra note

following more ppl and following fave hashtags helped me w/ this, but also a new feature of the latest mastodon release is meant to help with that

It has search for words & phrases instead of just hashtags

Ppl can opt in to being searchable in their own settings, so if they don't want to be searchable they can keep that turned off

Idk if your instance has updated or has plans to, but if/when they do, you'll have it available
