We talk about #bisexual #erasure as if it was the end result of #monosexism—the system that puts bi+ folks down—hurting us. But it's not. It's just the middle part of it, its tool. Biphobes erase us to push the belief that we don't exist nor matter, that we're not worth talking about nor taking seriously. Once this is done, they have all the power to call the shots in the #straight and #queer worlds. And they can do what they want with us without anyone in a position to push back hard.
Yet, much bi+ #activism focuses on ending #bisexual #erasure as if it was an end in itself. It's not, it's just one part of the process oppressing bi+ people. Our goal should be ending that #oppression. We should strive to make bi+ folks empowered as full participants and leaders in our communities and societies. We must end the threats to our #health and our quality of life as well, in solidarity with #progressive movements.

@sexedforbiguys would you have some articles to recommend that explain this biphobia (or binegativity) ? I struggle to really grasp how it takes form, as I never really experienced it. Bi-erasure I understand, but straight up biphobia (pun intended), given my history, I don't really get...

(yes, I could g**gle it, but I'm looking for relevant reads, if you have some)

Thanks!

@Nclt I'll give links to shorter stuff, but if you're down for a longer read, the most insightful book on #biphobia and #monosexism is "Bi: Notes for a #Bisexual Revolution," by Shiri Eisner. Shiri is one of the few activists who look at this stuff as a system in society and not just as individuals being prejudiced.
@Nclt I need to do more political writing, but my own Sex Ed for Bi Guys series has a couple of posts on coming out and power dynamics. These talk about myths that tend to come up in those conversations, and how to deal with those constructively. It's often not direct #biphobia, but biphobia and #monosexism feed these, and a lot of #bisexual people run into them. This is the main post about this. https://sexedforbiguys.tumblr.com/post/652070450810191872/coming-out-power-emotions-and-myths-sex-ed-for

@Nclt And this is another post that covers some extra myths that #bisexual and bi+ people run into.

@Nclt There's this great blog post that talks about #biphobia and #bisexual #erasure and #invisibility. It has this brilliant line about how biphobia is a crime that erases its own evidence. https://bisexuality.substack.com/p/the-invisibility-of-bisexual-invisibility

@Nclt You can't really talk about #biphobia without mentioning the horrifying rates of intimate partner #violence that bi+ and #bisexual #women, #nonbinary people, and even #men have to deal with. It's higher than for #straight people, and it's higher than for #lesbian and #gay folks. This article talks about possible causes for that, including biphobia. #abuse #relationships

@Nclt Finally, the #Bisexual #Archive on the birdsite retweets a lot of posts that are virulently biphobic. If you want to scroll through their account, you'll see a lot of examples. They have other stuff too that's not about #biphobia.
