Don't be fooled by the Republicans' intra-party "fighting" over the government shutdown. They're essentially all in on this.
Their goal(s)? Occam's Razor says:
1) Trigger a recession that -- because Big Journalism will publish whatever the Republicans claim, however untrue -- will be blamed on Democrats since they hold the White House.
2) Panic the Democrats (again with journalism's help) to give into massive cuts in programs that, you know, help people.
@nancyann @rpmik @emptywheel It's not about children per se, it's about power and specifically about demonstrating their ability and willingness to abuse people without it.
Recognizing this fact is critical for people to understand that nobody is safe. They are predators who will turn on you the instant you show any vulnerability.

It's a full court press to attack women, children, racial minorities, LGBT+ people, the disabled, and the poor.
