Rep. Swalwell *schooled* Jim Jordan

The GOP was threatening to hold Garland in contempt when Swalwell chimed in:

“My colleague just said you should be held in contempt of Congress. And that is quite rich because the guy who is leading the hearing room right now, Mr Jordan, is about 500 days into evading his subpoena—are you serious?”

🔥

@flexghost
Wow.
Almost faith-restoring.
ALMOST.
‘You were a witness to a crime ― you were a witness to the greatest crime ever committed, with the most criminals indicted in America. Will you help your country, will you comply with that subpoena?’”

No compliance. Crickets. Absolute defiance of the subpoena.

...and NOTHING fucking happened.
Let's remember that, eh?

@clintruin I mean, words are nice, but action is better

@flexghost @clintruin I agree, but it’s also *crucial* to understand how stacked the decks are against accountability.

To be outspoken and publicly call out the bullshit is absolutely a step in the right direction. No, it won’t get us to resolution, but it normalizes drawing a line in the sand.

Swalwell can’t take half of the house to court. But he absolutely looks like he’s down to be part of the larger movement.

Watch the next year and a half. I bet you’ll be surprised

@owlchemist @flexghost

I really, really hope so.

As an aside: isn't it fun that "accountability" is now considered a surprise?

@clintruin @flexghost the sad thing is that accountability is about the same as it’s always been, in terms of political/economy. Humans have always been shit at working out issues until there’s a hunger for cake and steel.

What I truly hope is that the pendulum has begun to swing the other way and we are trending towards more accountability where it has the biggest impact.
