Remember how Windows has a dedicated default shortcut for opening LinkedIn?

KDE Plasma users do not fret. Since KDE is all about copying Windows Plasma 6 will come with the same wrist-breaking shortcut by default:

https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/merge_requests/1731

(this is of course a joke and will not get merged)

@nicofee how dare you? IT... STAYS... IN

I want to fall, slam my face in to my keyboard and be able to look up and realize I've inadvertently launched Linkedin.
Through cracked and missing teeth I will smile like a child unto the sun and say "Bless you Plasma, bless you"

@nicofee I mean, in all seriousness, the whole reason it has this stupid shortcut is because that mass of modifier keys is the equivalent of the "Office" key that's on officially sanctioned Windows keyboards, and of course there are a bunch of officially advertised Office key shortcuts, so of course they have to support them. Forever. Well, or at least, until everyone forgets these keyboards exist. But since when has Windows ever removed backwards compatibility for even the stupidest of misfeatures?
@chris @nicofee well I will admit it has allowed them to keep businesses on windows for generations; exploiting the fact that companies refuse to have developers on hand, willing to patch software to work around the removal of the miss-features the OG devs chose to rely on.
@nicofee getting my hopes up
@nicofee Half disappointed this is not Esc+Meta+Alt+Ctrl+Shift+L, to open it using emacs.

The LinkedIn shortcut is actually part of a larger collection of Office shortcuts.

To make sure @libreoffice is on par with MS office there I submitted https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/157130

@nicofee Why LinkedIn and not something else, like Fedi for example?
@nicofee isn't windows all about copying plasmer?
@nicofee I had missed the sarcasm until I read the comments, and tbh I was furious at first. Please add a /s to mark sarcasm, it makes it much easier to get it right for people like me with communication issues.
@nicofee oh wow, didn't even know this and https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/merge_requests/819 were actual merge requests on KDE Invent, that's wacky
@nicofee can it even be considered a "shortcut" at that point? you can't even use a 5-key shortcut on a lot of cheaper keyboards because it's too many simultaneous keypresses
@jacob You are right, it should be called a longcut
@nicofee Glad to see that such needed feature parity is coming to Plasma 6.
@nicofee Maybe now my Pinterest shortcut will be taken seriously.
@nicofee finally, plasma was unusable for me without this
@nicofee OMFG "TODO: hardcode MS Edge instead"

@nicofee nah, love your comment more than the proposal itself XD

> TODO: hardcode MS Edge instead

@nicofee @BrodieOnLinux video about kde plasma prank PRs?
@nicofee 🤣

How about remove Konqueror and make Edge the default KDE browser next?

Disclaimer: I work at MS, but not on LinkedIn or Edge.

@nicofee This is it.

When this gets merged, 2024 will be the Year of Linux on the Desktop for sure!

@nicofee I don't consider that...at all necesary, to reach any kind of windows parity. Hell, there are lots of things which could help one get closer to that goal, linkedin is at all not the most used social network anyway, just saying

* meta+m should focus the desktop
* tab from the desktop goes to the pannel accessed by alt+meta+p, try that on windows and see what you get
* meta+a opens the notification center
* meta+b focuses system tray

@31113 lol, interesting. Still though, my suggestions would probably be useful, if one would want to reach feature parity where it matters more, for example windows keyboard users, or well, assistive technology users who rely on these shortcuts being available and a certain workflow working. Everyone can adapt of course, but you know, something like that would really be useful to have.
@nicofee "TODO: hardcode MS Edge instead" 😂
@nicofee
Windows has what?

@minecraftchest1 Windows? What's Windows?

@nicofee

@jdoe
A pane (or multiple) that we install in a wall, often times with some sort of frame for easy replacing. They can also be found in cars, trucks, and other motor vehiecles. Occasionally we find windows without glass or similar.
@nicofee
@nicofee needs a floating microsoft edge search bar too
@nicofee Lol, those comments in the MR are hilarious!😅
