European governments shrinking railways in favour of road-building, report finds

Rail networks in most countries have been starved of funding while motorways lengthen, study shows

@mobileharv And yet this is infinitely *better* than the statistics for the US.

@mobileharv

That's a lot of money spent to end up with less of something, which shows that a simple metric of length of rail vs. length of road oversimplifies things.

The real tragedy is the loss of so many small rail lines and connectivity to smaller communities.

@mobileharv We need to put an end to this crap

@mobileharv

What #European policy to promote the railway network
@EU_Commission ?
Or to level the playing field with #road transport, which is the biggest unfairly subsidised business in Europe, with billions of uncompensated public money in extending and maintaining the networks.

@mobileharv imagine if they built rail instead of motorways. Ugh.
