I’m really struggling with where I want to be socially in the post-Twitter eduverse.

Obviously any question asked directly on a platform will be biased toward people ON that platform, but still I want to know: where are you finding engaged teachers these days?

@BrentGWarner Youtube, unfortunately
@martin Yes, people have been saying this! I don't really understand how communities get built there, though, except if they're posting under the same video. Am I missing something?

@BrentGWarner well yes, what I mean is the good teachers are posting great videos on a regular basis and the Algorithm brings people together around them. (My definition of a good teacher is anyone who is researching/learning/teaching a topic in an engaging way, not necessarily someone working at a particular type of traditional institution).

Many of them have added patreon for financial support that gives you access to Discord chats or Substacks where communities form.

The learning dynamics of discussion around quality regular feeds from subject gurus are good. I just wish it was more #openedtech and less Silicon Valley. (Which is why I’m getting https://openedtech.global going)

@martin I see what you're saying. I always bounce back and forth because I think if people are providing value, they should be compensated for it - and I DEFINITELY understand teachers need supplemental income. But yeah, I'd be fine without the "I'm an ex classroom teacher now working for XXX" all the time.

BTW, openedtech.global looks cool! I'm signing up for the newsletter now!

@BrentGWarner here’s a few examples of good teachers I’ve liked in the past https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLToa7kC8Cb1-R5TSLw1ov_jEXoUbwJhtm&si=IXSzZrAYWkXeY-u4

Obviously there’s a lot more to good online teaching than just making videos, but a strong engaging feed is core, I think
