This is quite annoying, this free open source web dev course called The Odin Project sent me a warning about mentioning Fedora, the Linux distro, to a user to try out. Since apparently I cannot even MENTION other distros or OS’s not related to their curriculum in their discord. Very ironic for an open source community. @duskcs que sea opensource no quiere decir que tú debas o incluso puedas hablar o promover lo que tú quieras. Es como si voy yo a un foro de Fedora o Ubuntu a promover openSUSE.

@karlggestd Creo que la idea de un FOSS es que puedes recomendar otras opciones y tienes otras opciones sin ser cerrado que quedarte atascado con las que proporcionan. Creo que la mayoría de la gente puede estar de acuerdo con eso. También lo siento por el español mal traducido.

@duskcs FOSS is about a ownership system, or even a creation system.

But any online community can decide about what topics want to cover. If I create an online community to ukelele fans, you are not invited to come to talk about benefits of electronic music.

@karlggestd They do have that right of course but that violates the idea of of FOSS since the idea for it is that you HAVE options and aren’t limited to one path, with the Odin project they enforce their suggested options which I personally think violates the idea of having options and being open to those options.

@duskcs If you think that is so important, you can start or promote a external Odin Community. Or try they start a separate discord channel to other systems issues.

@karlggestd doubt they’ll wanna do that considering they have other priorities I’m sure, but creating a fork would be what I would do in the future

@karlggestd that would be easier probably hahaha, but I’d still like to challenge myself and operate an alternative to the Odin project, remove or add any tweaks necessary to the curriculum and stuff, this would be a multiple year project tho and I’d need to find some people to help hahaha
