We had NO idea what was coming.
@daviddlevine
I suspect whoever wrote that synopsis still doesn’t have any idea of what came.
@daviddlevine @cstross To be fair that review pretty much nails it
@ottocrat @daviddlevine @cstross Yeah, all the pertinent ingredients are mentioned 'ear. 😅
@daviddlevine as the late, great British comedian Eric Morecambe once said: all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.

@daviddlevine Reads a lot like a mini-review of "The Matrix" I read back in 1999 in what was then Poland's biggest-selling newspaper (a liberal one at that).

(it was a weird newspaper that would at roughly the same time run stories about satanist indoctrination in "Doom" and the inherent sexism of "Tomb Raider")

@daviddlevine weird choice, 1966 TV listings style guide
@jbpyke @daviddlevine perhaps Kirk here is a "space" "ship captain" ( "space" modifies "captain") rather than a "space ship" "captain" (where "space" modifies "ship").

@daviddlevine

every journey starts with the first step...

in this case 'to boldly go...'

@daviddlevine This is the best thing I’ve read all week! Thanks for this spot of joy.
@daviddlevine In color!
@jpjjr1961 How else could the viewers appreciate the "colored space food”?
@daviddlevine They truly had no idea how much nonsense Shatner would eventually bring.
@daviddlevine I heard an urban legend once that a program guide repeatedly used the show description "Captain Kirk and Mr Spock beam down to an alien world, where not all is as it seems." 😅

@evilmicrowizard @daviddlevine hey, to be fair, sometimes it was “encounter an alien ship where not all is as it seems”

Or

“Something is wrong with Spock”

@albnelson @daviddlevine I really should go through TOS and find out how often it applies. That would have been a perfect lockdown activity, in fact 😅
@evilmicrowizard @daviddlevine hey I’m pretty sure that’s a perfect activity anytime
@daviddlevine @cstross Yeah…Captain Hepburn and her annoying chef.
@daviddlevine
"Normal-eared Wiliam Shatner"
@daviddlevine Ah, the two genders: pointy-eared and normal-eared.
@daviddlevine Imma start describing people as "normal-eared."
@daviddlevine I do like the fact that they completely spoil the major reveal at the end of the episode. “Psycho: A mentally ill motel owner dresses up as his deceased mother to murder guests in their rooms.”
@daviddlevine @ChrisU they really are not enough likes for this. Thanks for sharing. LLAP 🖖
@gedeonm @daviddlevine It’s great. I had to share. :)
@daviddlevine that episode terrified me. I’d wake up early and open the back door a crack so that if my mom came at me for my salt, I’d have a way to escape
@daviddlevine well... Now we know who ended up with Frank Costanza's TV Guide collection! 😝
@daviddlevine @gedeonm ah, yes. It was the colored space food that hooked me. 🤣
@daviddlevine The Map-trap, kept me (and my parents) awake for a whole night after seeing it.
@daviddlevine I'm mostly curious about why they think coloured food is from space. Unless they're British, their food usually has *some* colour..

@daviddlevine @Okanogen
Of all the things this gets wrong, describing Kirk as “no nonsense” is perhaps the most laughable.

(We had a running “timed to Kirk ripped shirt” watch going for each episode of TOS)

@daviddlevine Wow. 1960s TV guide attaining levels of "normie" I didn't know were possible.
@daviddlevine I for one like the "(Color)" addendum.
@toybox How else could the viewers appreciate the "colored space food”?

@daviddlevine

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!

"normal-eared William Shatner" omg I'll never look at a photo of him again without saying out loud "will you look at those normal ears."

@shipscrewunscrewer How else could the viewers appreciate the "colored space food”?
@daviddlevine Obviously not the pilot. Pike in his chair will stay with me until the bitter end of memory.
@run_atalanta Nope. As with Firefly, the pilot was NOT the first episode aired.
@run_atalanta Also, the image of Pike in his chair wasn't even in the pilot (“The Cage”). That was new footage filmed for the two-parter "The Menagerie” later in season 1.
