Elon Musk secretly shut down Starlink operations off the coast of Crimea last year to thwart an attack by Ukrainian naval drones on the Russian naval fleet, CNN writes based on an excerpt adapted from Walter Isaacson’s new biography of Musk.

@noelreports *pressing X for doubt* As much as #Starlink can support #Roaming and eben #Moving vehicles, I'm not shure they can handle flight speeds nor that Ukrainian Military was able and willing to migrate onto Starlink for that purpose...
@kkarhan @noelreports Oh, come on. It’s about the water surface drones and you can clearly see the Starlink antenna on almost every image of those drones.
@amayer @noelreports doesn't change the fact that it's quite an absurd overengineering...
@kkarhan @noelreports Moving goal posts much?

@amayer @noelreports nope.

My prime criticism was and still is the same:

There's a reason no NATO member would ever use Starlink for critical comms and they'd rather pay absurd prices for #XTAR instead...

@[email protected] @[email protected] it's not as if there was any contract or guaranteed availability... Just like with anything else. Not to mention Starlink's ToS ban use for weapons systems... There's a reason why shit like #Drones are done on dedicaded satellites with dedicaded equipment in dedicaded bands... I'm pretty shure if Zelenskyy asks his government would get #XTAR coverage in less than 24 hours with a dedicaded spotbeam on Ukraine... https://xtar.com/xtar-eur-2/
