F's in the chat - Lemmy.zip

I was there for 12 years! Not that it’s a competition. It was a very weird transition at first.
11 years and 3 days with well over 650k karma, before The Wipe for me. Power deleted all posts and comments.
Have you checked to see if Reddit un-deleted them? I’ve heard a few cases of people mass deleting their posts/comments, only for them to reappear a few days later
It does look like all is gone from my post/comment history, at least.
Same. It was actually a big enough change to routine that it took a few weeks to stop automatically opening Reddit.
I had to put the Lemmy app where Baconreader used to be 😢
I moved the lemmy icon to where reddit was on my browser’s top bar. That helped a lot.
Hol up, you were using the reddit app / website and still left? Good on you! For most of us clicking on our reddit browsers simply brought up nothing so the routine was quickly broken (removed RIF).
Used old.reddit and Bacon Reader if not at a PC. Been there long enough for this to the last straw, for real this time.
I was exclusively an old.reddit user. Spez’s incredible arrogance and utter contempt for the users meant I had no other choice than to leave.

I was on there for a similar amount of time and was permanently banned for badmouthing the British royal family. Well, suggesting that the problem if British royalty could be solved with bricks, which are cheaper than guillotines.

The most annoying thing was that they treated that as some sort of actionable threat of violence.

The thought of that sniveling reporter and admin getting all uppity because I threatened their lords…

Ugh…

Same dude.

Honestly though its been easier than I thought. My screen time is way down and I have found lots of free time.

I’d rather edit every single post / comment to say “Fuck u/spez” but I don’t know how to use the API to do that and I don’t have the time to commit to that project :/
Good suggestion. My next Selenium project may begin this Saturday.
Make sure to also link to Lemmy. 👍

Another bot that can be made. I’ll be sure to look into it.
I used Redact to do it automatically, on my 13 years old account
Redact - Mass Delete Messages, Posts and More

Easily bulk delete all your content from Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Discord and 30+ sites. Download Redact and control your digital footprint.

PowerDeleteSuite if it still works
I’m bored. Can I write you the code?
Do it for the rest of us

Lol some subreddits had changed their automod to warn you for changing your comments to “fuck Spez”

I got one that sorta said “oh you are editing all your old comments before leaving reddit? Let me ban you to help you not come back”

Then they banned me not even 10 minutes before I deleted my account. It was such a pathetic sounding message lmfao.

@Mr_Buscemi

Same energy as "You can't break up with me because I'm breaking up with you!"

I had like 10 Reddit Accounts over the past years

Right? Same here. I don’t understand why people cherish their Reddit accounts so much.
I was on Reddit every day for 14+ years. July 1st I came to Lemmy and never looked back.

I miss the toxicity. I miss the inside jokes… I miss shitty watercolours. I miss the gore. I miss the profound comments. I miss the extremely detailed and informative answers to the most rudiment question.

Here is just: capitalism bad / Landlords suck / Linux / Chromium sux / Atheism

Don’t get me wrong, I love these topics, but it’s just that…

I found another website where I make my daily blog, but now I’m wasting even more time online…

you… miss the toxicity…
Yeah. I miss people arguing over unimportant stuff, like their life depends on it. I miss communities coming together to mass downvote companies like EA. And I miss letting out anger, knowing that the other user does the same.

Here is just: capitalism bad / Landlords suck

You're in a meme community that's hosted on an instance started by Marxist-leninists. Of course you're going to see a lot of that. Have you tried to search for communities on other instances? I'm on Kbin, and this is one of many fediverse-wide communities I'm subscribed to from there. I don't get the constant politics and circlejerking on some other instances.

Oh, that explains a lot!
…when does the narwal bacon… They were the good times. Oh well.
If I could remember my password, I’d delete mine in a heartbeat
Deleted facebook last year and reddit this year. Felt so good.

16 yo acct, barely touched it after joining hexbear (chapo.chat at that time) in late 2020

they probably keep an archive at the NSA anyway

Most deletion tools only view the profile pages, they have a 1k non refreshing cap. So only 1k newest, 1k top etc. . So otherwise delete account just makes the rest against a [deleted] user the posts are all still there.

I didn’t delete any of my posts when I left Reddit. Felt too much like punishing Reddit users and searchers of random information and not enough like punishing Spez.

I dunno. Aside from “fuck Spez” (which, don’t get me wrong, I can’t say is entirely unappealing), what’s the argument to be made for deleting your post history via something like PowerDeleteSuite rather than just leaving and never visiting Reddit again?

The argument I’ve heard is that reddit will be monetizing its user generated data by allowing AI programs to access it.
Yeah, that seems a little compelling, except that they’ve demonstrated that they keep deleted post content. If they’d be sleazy enough to train AIs on our not-deleted content, they’d probably be sleazy enough to train AIs on our deleted posts as well.
It’s not that important. People are putting far too much value into a forum account.

Partly to reduce Reddit’s reputation as the place to find answers for obscure problems, and partly to encourage neutral users to search for alternatives.

I think that deleters will not make a mind breaking difference, but the idea is to remove and rebuild that information other places.

With that said, if any of you had posted some obscure but wildly useful information on Reddit, please consider making a post in the relevant Lemmy community with the solution.

I debated whether or not I should wipe my post/comment history, but ultimately I decided that I just didn’t want reddit to have anything I created, no matter how worthless it is.
made it all the way into r/ascension or whatever the 1 million karma club is called, only to find it was as vapid as the rest of Reddit.
Then reddit admins use the time stone and all your comments are restored. You’ll need the GDPR stone to do it permanently.
Is there a way to download my saved items? I haven’t gotten around to deleting yet and want to use PDS to do it thoroughly.
Power Delete Suite has the option to save a local backup before nuking your posts/comments from orbit.
Until spez brings them back…
@balderdash9 9 year old account...gone. I can't believe how much it took me to do that. The day after they started their new charges. I really held out hope that they would see reason, like Hasbro with the whole license issue. Shame. Goodbye Reddit. Burn in hell.
The difference with the Hasbro D&D license though is the cliche "you are the product" quote. Hasbro needs to sell D&D products to the people who they upset, but Reddit only needs to sell impressions to advertisers who didn't care about the API.
whenever I delete old accounts I always make a gdpr request on all my data, does anyone else do that?
That's what I did before I overwrote and deleted my reddit comments. Left the account active just so I can make sure it stays that way
