Please recommend me your favourite podcasts for someone who doesn’t usually listen to or like podcasts, my doctor said, I have to stare at the wall and be a blob for a few days to let my brain recover from having a concussion
@Vidyala I really don't like podcasts either, but Planet Money on NPR has been the most interesting of the ones my wife has played on car trips.
@Vidyala Do you like horror fiction? If so, Magnus Archives is awesome. Or are you looking for non fiction recommendations? You're Dead To Me is a super awesome history podcast
@Vidyala My favorite one is 372 Pages We'll Never Get Back, where two of the guys from Rifftrax talk about bad books. (If you check this one out, make sure you start at the first episode of a particular book so you're less confused. The newer ones will say Book Title: Ep # in the titles of the episode, which makes it easier.)
@Vidyala And if that's not your thing, other faves are Stuff You Missed in History Class (which I just realized I've been listening to for 15 years 😱) and Criminalia, a historical true crime podcast with one of the hosts from SYMIHC.
@Vidyala 99% invisible is one of my favourites - they're short, straightforward, and cover loads of different super interesting topics. Some of my favourite episodes are Mojave Phone Booth, Kowloon Walled City and Ten Thousand Years :)
@Vidyala
No Such Thing as a Fish is a personal favourite (also the finished and sadly missed Flip the Table). I tend to like board game podcasts, comedy podcasts, and comedy board game podcasts.

@Vidyala Ologies is excellent. Each episode has an interview with an expert in a specific field (ranging from obscure history to particle physics)

@Vidyala I really love "Stuff to blow your mind“ and the other stuff you should know Podcasts. And Skeptics with a K is always a lot of fun and at the same time educational which is something I love about podcasts.
If you like Star Trek "the Pod Directive" is worth listening to.

@Vidyala Oh err.. some are horror and I dunno if you're into that, but I do like:
- The Magnus Archives
- Scare You to Sleep
- Lore
- Myths and Legends
- Dan Snow's History Hit
- Anthropocene
- Dungeon Master's Block

A couple bonus ones I've not personally checked out yet but have heard are SOLID and I believe it:
- Fake Doctors: Real Friends (Zach Braff and Donald Faison revisit Scrubs episode by episode)
- The Friendship Onion (Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan!!!)

@Vidyala I'm subscribed to loads I've never listened to in the hopes that, one day, I actually will. And there are some that I've listened to and liked and forgot which one it was. xD

Oh a bonus horror one, friend of mine from Discord does 'Wikreeps' which is basically a verbal wikipedia summarising popular horror movies for people who like to do that sort of thing (maybe enjoy the stories but too squeamish/jumpy to enjoy watching). They do a good job with it.

@Vidyala My rec is NightVale, which is a difficult podcast to describe, it's like a funny/creepy fake radio show. Someone recommended it to me by saying 'surreal small town America, with gay stuff.' I ended up loving it, so I'm passing it on.
@Cat_LeFey @Vidyala Can confirm Nightvale is awesome
@Vidyala LeVar Burton Reads, if you just want to listen to great short fiction.
@Vidyala If you like history, I enjoy "Our Fake History" and "You're Wrong About". Also love the Stuff you should know series.
@Vidyala A has listened to The Secret Life of Canada quite a lot and I enjoy it too!
@Vidyala Also I personally have enjoyed listening to "Well There's Your Problem" a podcast about engineering disasters.
@Vidyala if you like when people infodump: Factually! With Adam Conover
If you wanna feel like a friend is catching you up on their life, and also enjoy planner related stuff: The Uncurated Life by Cindy Guentert-Baldo
@Vidyala You have a concussion? I don't know what I've missed but Lord, hope you're okay.
@elisse @Vidyala yes, she’s on full rest and no screens of any kind, not even paper books for the rest of the week.
@Vosskah @Vidyala Oh what the heck. Healing thoughts for Vid 💗

@Vidyala

- For short fiction, I loved The Orbiting Human Circus
- For comedic radio serials, Thrilling Adventure Hour
- Non-fiction: Conversations with People Who Hate Me; Nancy; Minority Korner; Making Gay History; 99% Invisible; Heavyweight; and someone mentioned No Such Thing As a Fish which I’ll second
- Music: Music for Programmers for drone/ambient; Today’s Top Tune from KCRW for all sorts of new stuff

Hope your recovery is smooth!

@Vidyala Steal The Stars

Short enough to manage, long enough to engage. I listened to it some years ago and I'm still thinking about several aspects of it.

@Vidyala Nobody Panic -- two British ladies take on an "obvious" topic that rapidly becomes less obvious, like "How to wash your face." Nice and quick at 30 minutes long, very funny, and full of good vibes.

@Vidyala My favourite podcasts are mostly gaming related, with a few others. Daily Tech News Show is exactly that, The Morning Stream is Mon-Thu variety show, Core is a weekly (long) show about gaming in general, Film Sack is a weekly show about odd and entertaining movies.

These would probably be my top choices. I hope you like them! 😁

@Vidyala I hooe you recover quickly. So sorry you’re on no screen time. I wish I had suggestions, but I don’t do podcasts. I’m sure folks offered some good ones though.
@Vidyala A lot depends on what you like, if you are okay with spooky fiction, look at Welcome to Nightvale, or Between the Wires, for Book Podcasts, I like Sword and Laser (SF and Fantasy Podcast). NPR has a lot of good podcasts as well.
@Vidyala Two that come to mind is "Revolutions" by Mike Duncan. Previously, he did A History of Rome, but it takes him a while to find his voice in that one. But if you like history, these are real bangers.
@Vidyala I have recently got into Dark Histories and the link is: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9kYXJraGlzdG9yaWVzLnBvZGJlYW4uY29tL2ZlZWQueG1s?ep=14
Podcast description: Fortnightly narratives on the unsolved and the unexplained, mysteries, historical true crime, touches of the paranormal and cultural peculiarities.

@Vidyala I also recommend The Lazarus Heist, a BBC podcast. It's about how North Korea funds it's regime through hacking activities around the world. Link here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/w13xtvg9?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile

@Vidyala ah the podcast is called “Ologies”podcast. “Take away a pocket full of science knowledge and charming, bizarre stories about what fuels these professional -ologists' obsessions. Humorist and science correspondent Alie Ward asks smart people stupid questions and the answers might change your life.”
