"Stop living in fear, you just need to go out and live your life!"

Ma'am, I had to take a week off of work and cancel my birthday vacation because a random child coughed on me.

@Wanderbot it's perfectly natural to be somewhat afraid of a plague

@eniko Yuuup. Luckily I just got Pharyngitis instead of COVID, but not getting sick multiple times per year makes being a hermit an unbelievable value proposition to me.

Especially when the vicarious alternative is (according to the lady who inspired my original toot): eating inside restaurants and seeing her mean friends.

@Wanderbot

I went to a wedding last October and now have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome...

I think it's not so much living in fear as just being sensibly careful.

@Wanderbot
It killed my mum. Yes she had other issues (Parkinsonism).
But.
The thing about COVID is that it does permanent harm.
So, the chance of it doing major harm next time you get it ... is cumulative.

@Wanderbot
And if it does do you permanent damage, why now you've got a pre-existing condition... good luck getting health insurance!

(Doesn't apply directly to me, I live in Britain. But the infections? They apply to my life. So does the damage to the health service - overworked and demoralised staff, queues for diagnosis, queues for treatment...)
