Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal - Heretic

@ZachWeinersmith Hmmm... I dunno if the data backs that up
@Karstan @ZachWeinersmith I have no idea, but I am fairly sure, based on personal anecdotal evidence and my vague and terrible understanding of human nature, that it is in fact true. *Most people* (by a wide margin) have a working conscience and prefer to live in cooperation with other people, so long as they consider those "other people" to be people they can get along with. If they grew up being taught that "others are bad", that's where it falls apart, but within their own community it's fine
@Karstan @ZachWeinersmith I genuinely believe that almost all people are trustworthy, for example they wouldn't steal your umbrella if you leave it out for a while unguarded, even if they could use it. But of course there *are* a minority of people who don't have this conscience, we call them sociopaths, narcissists, and a variety of other names.
@Karstan @ZachWeinersmith
It absolutely does.
What the "bad" people want us to believe is that everyone is dishonest, untrustworthy.
Because that puts them on a level playing field with people who are genuinely good, decent, honest people. They love the "all people are corrupt" narrative because when their corruption is exposed, they can just brush it off as normal and nothing to worry about.
Most of all, they love the "people are selfish" narrative. It exonerates them from doing anything charitable, and it discourages people from coming together to do the right thing, too.
Most people are good, it's just that many very powerful and rich people don't want us knowing this and rising up against them, so they keep us oppressed with this lie about people being bad, and how we need them and their police and armies to keep us safe.
Rant over :-)
@ZachWeinersmith
Uncharacteristically to my general nature, I suddenly want to prove that smug bastard wrong.
@ZachWeinersmith Dutchman Rutger Bregman wrote a book about this: "De meeste mensen deugen" (most people are kind of Ok).
@leroc @ZachWeinersmith
I have had the pleasure of living in Europe, America, Asia and Oceania. I have hung out with everyone from royalty to the homless, and I can say my experience is that people are mostly nice.
@ZachWeinersmith Sir, I'm going to need to see your citations with DOIs.
@ZachWeinersmith hey, sorry to be complainy, but your website is in breach of GDPR with its tracking consent form. It must have an immediately available one-click "no" option of same size and availability as the "yes" option. It can't be hidden in submenus or behind expanders or wherever.
@ZachWeinersmith we’re all just agents stuck in a less than optimum nash equilibrium πŸ˜”

I'VE BEEN CALLED A MONSTER. A FOOL. A LIAR.
DISGUSTING, WICKED...
I'M A PARIAH FROM NEARLY EVERY SOCIAL MOVEMENT.
BUT LOOK THE DATA IS PRETTY SOLID ON THIS.
HUMANS ARE TRUSTWORTHY, KIND, AND PEACEFUL MOST OF THE TIME!
BASTARD!
SHUN THE HERETIC!
@ZachWeinersmith original sin is the original sin!
@ZachWeinersmith Far and away the coolest people on the planet believe this. It is an act of defiance ❀️
@ZachWeinersmith Keep your heresy to yourself, you mad man.

@ZachWeinersmith *glances back at...all of recorded history

I'm going with K on this one, "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it."
