They’re so fucking gross. They lean on their LGBT community like a crutch and wield them like a shield; like they’re above reproach because they have LGBT members. It reeks of the same kind garbage that rainbow capitalism pulls. “Oh, you didn’t like X thing we told you to like? You’re obviously a bigot who hates gays”.
Motherfucker, I’m not your pet, your shield or your excuse for poor behavior. Cry harder.
On a side note: the claim that /r/chapotraphouse was shut down by the CIA is bizzare.
Jessicah Ashooh, reddit’s director of policy, the person responsible for banning Chapo Trap House, was a senior fellow for the Atlantic Council, which is funded in large part by the US military and NATO, and was appointed at around the same time the Senate Select Intelligence Committee was demanding more control over reddit.
The Atlantic Council’s board of directors “has been and continues to be a who’s who of high U.S. statespeople like Henry Kissinger, Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice, as well as senior military commanders such as retired generals Wesley Clark, David Petraeus, H.R. McMaster, James ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis, the late Lt. Gen. Brent Scowcroft, and Admiral James Stavridis. At least seven former CIA directors are also on the board.” (quote source)
How and why did a hawkish young mandarin hothoused at elite universities and in the halls of state power end up an executive at an anarchic messageboard site with an anti-establishment reputation?
“appeal to the rainbow crowd”
what a fucking bizarre way to talk
if i had to articulate why it doesn’t pass the vibe check, it’s weird distancing language where it makes queer people sound like a distant homogenous group that is simple to appeal to, instead of a huge, diverse set of unique human beings. it’s a way of speaking that gathers them all up and puts them in a neat little box.
also, claiming hexbear is “suddenly” trying to “appeal to” them, when a huge portion of hexbear users are queer themselves, and the site has had mandatory pronoun tags for ages, is just obviously pure bullshit. it’s like the idea that people might actually be queer, and not just talking about an absent queer “other” somewhere else, never occurred to this person
I’m queer, and I use rainbow squad or rainbow gang.
Doesn’t pride gather them up? Doesn’t LGBTQ gather them up? You can be lesbian, and trans. Doesn’t Queer gather them up?
tell ya what does gather them up though… The Soviet Fucking Union lmao
tell ya what does gather them up though… The Soviet Fucking Union lmao
didn’t the soviets decriminalize homosexuality all the way back in 1917? I’m sure there was still plenty of bigotry back then, they were a former peasant society who had lived under a right wing tsar, but committed ideological communists were generally pretty socially progressive. on women’s rights for example the USSR was way ahead of the west.
to gain support from any minority they could
the much-coveted gay support in 1917
you should know what happened next
…I should, but I actually didn’t know they backslid and recriminalized it :/
it doesn’t seem any worse than what was happening in the rest of the world though. I’m not trying to excuse it in absolute sense, it’s fucked, but it doesn’t seem at all unique to the USSR
You joke, but yes, they tried to get as much support from marginalised groups as possible. Gays were one of these useful groups.
…I should
Fuck yeah, you should. Now you know that whenever you see Stalin posted in hexbear, they’re posting the face of the man who killed our queer brothers.
Buuut, you don’t care. And you aren’t going to suddenly start disavowing the atrocities of the soviet union.
Guessing you know this but since it seems to be “learn about the USSR (etc) week”: They gathered support from anarchists, too. Ukraine, in particular, had much more of an anarchist bent than a communist one. They don’t teach much about that in the US but people have probably heard of Nestor Mahkno and the Black Army.
The Bolsheviks (that’s the Stalin/Lenin/Trotsky types) at first were all welcoming, all like “oh yeah we’re all fighting one struggle against the moneyed elites for the workers of the world!” but as soon as they felt like they had established power the story changed. The Bolsheviks decided the right course of action was to kill em all and made sure to prioritize this. It wasn’t even Stain who made that call, it was Lenin and good old kind hearted Leon Trotsky.
The leaders of the USSR never really forgot that they had murdered all their comrades in Ukraine and neither did the Ukrainians. We can see that hostility toward the people of Ukraine continue with the Holodomor and even today in Putin’s ravings of how Ukraine really belongs to Russia.
Wasn’t hexbear accusing the admins of blahaj.zone of being transphobic or something like that a few weeks ago? I’ve seen hexbears throw around so much hyperbole that it’s become hard to believe anything they say.
I don’t doubt that she’s received transphobic DMs, pretty much anyone who’s trans has gotten them at some point (except for me, somehow I’ve been lucky thus far). My issue is with their overall behavior and the fact that they have a tendency to accuse anyone of bigoted behavior when they don’t see perfectly eye-to-eye.
they were accusing her of allowing chaser behavior in /c/196, which she was
lmao. I was there for that whole affair. That's not even vaguely close to what actually happened. But sure, lie about the owner of the most trans-positive instance on the Fediverse because they don't lick tankie boots. Jesus Christ, you people are vile.
