Not the "Build software better, together. Powerful collaboration, code review, and code management for open source and private projects." we signed up for years ago. (github's main page from webarchive).

@fedor @clementd @github I honestly think this is pretty disappointing to see. I could understand it if you were still in the hype cycle of VC investment backed services, but you're not, so I really don't understand the jump onto the AI band wagon.

@cthos @thisismissem @fedor @clementd It's pretty pathetic. They would look vaguely better just admitting they made a stupid investment than doubling down on something everyone can see is at best counterproductive.

@lispi314 @cthos @fedor @clementd even if we consider Microsoft's investment in OpenAI & AI in general a neutral thing (it's not), then it still doesn't make sense: GitHub is about people and projects.

Without people or projects, it'd be pointless. Like, it'd just be random AI generated code of no actual value.

@thisismissem @lispi314 @cthos @clementd but microsoft being an evil corp is not about people and projects.

GH at this point holds Library of Alexandria kind of value - it have implementations of all known algorithms, glue code for all known platforms etc etc.

AI is a way for an evil organisation to convert this value into a short term money.
