@johnettesnuggs I'm looking for the zoo-archaelogical (is that even a word?) evidence. It wpuld seem fair to assume the Scandinavians "adopted" this bird at some point during the Iron Age, but I want to know the scholarly and acientiffic proof.

here’s one of the rare occurrences where the German Wikipedia website is a lot more thorough than the English. You’ll find a lot of interesting info on the chicken’s domestication in general and on its distribution over Europe as well.
You could also try and find biologist and geneticist Armin Six. He did interesting molecular research on genetic relationships between breeds and knows a lot about the domestication history of chickens.
