@ekis wait, what metadata is being collected? AFAIK the signal doesn’t know nor does it need to know which user has sent the message and to whom as it’s all contained in the encrypted message and sent with just a token that’s meaningless to everyone else except the sending party. Only thing they can share per user is when they last contacted the server (which doesn’t tell what the reason of the contact was) and that’s about it. If you have some evidence to the contrary I’m very interested.

@taxet @ekis Maybe give the idea of broadcasting every message every user sends to every Signal install some more thought and think whether that could actually scale and what it means for battery life if you get sent every signal message on the planet.

Also signal knows hashes of the phone numbers of your contacts if you allow it, and phone numbers are small so it's fairly trivial to bruteforce the number from the hash.
