Laure van Heijenoort had the distinct pleasure of growing up inhabiting spaces from two major modernist architects. Together with Paul Guyer, Laure reflects on what it is like to live in such a space, what makes such spaces spiritual and, as I propose in my own editorial introduction, they thereby touch upon some central questions concerning aesthetics in general!

Classical #ruins are sites of great architectural as well as tourist interest. Contemporary ruins, however, abandoned industrial sites, are often left in disregard. In her article for #AesthInv20231, Elizabeth Scarbrough proposes a different, "neo-#picturesque" way of appreciating the contemporary ruin. She examines in detail the now derelict #Miami Marine Stadium and makes concrete suggestions for its #preservation.

Focused on the idea of a "surplus of form", Gleiter argues that an aesthetics of architecture thematises the way in which architectural structures not only provide habitable shelter, but also enable sensible experiences of materials, buildings, and ultimately neighbourhoods and cities as well.
