Yeah well, that *sorta* worked 😁

Just added this little monster to my Macintosh IIci 😎

Setting up the network was super simple. Put card in, run MacTCP, set address to router.

Netscape is a little bit primitive though - Lynx also works but stops at HTTPS sites (unsurprisingly).

Anyone know of a better browser for 68k Macs? Something that doesn't open a long series of JavaScript errors on Google would be a start 😉

iCab (Classic) - Macintosh Repository

iCab is a web broswer that supported older Macintosh hardware a bit longer than the better known alternatives. Version 2.99b would appear to be the...

@jcgraybill that looks promising, thanks!

@jcgraybill Hmm, tried it out, and it really doesn't seem to like this machine - crashes and freezes, and/or doesn't load the pages. Might be specific to the IIci I guess.

All the other browsers seem to work without crashing, even though the rendering results are... well, mixed 😄

@retrotechtive Oh what a bummer. iCab was reliably my go-to browser back in the day, but a IIci may indeed not be its jam. Your best bet may be to embrace the retro and go text-only… which ironically some of the most thoughtfully-built sites still support pretty well. https://www.macintoshrepository.org/794-maclynx-2-7-1b1

Nice job getting that old dreamboat online!

MacLynx 2.7.1b1 - Macintosh Repository

@jcgraybill @retrotechtive Please use macintoshgarden.org instead. Repo just scrapes and rehosts their content - then tries to make you pay for it.
@bakkus @jcgraybill I did try that, it was also incredibly slow on this machine/browser. I didn't realize the other site "borrows" from it though, that's very disappointing if true given their attitude to payment. Good to know.
@retrotechtive Thanks for the heads up, @bakkus . I wasn’t aware there was drama between the sites. That’s too bad.
