Is hexbear.net [http://hexbear.net] not supported by those apps, or is it not a part of fediverse or something? I am new to this platform, so it would really be great if someone could help me figure this out.

I would ask this question on their site, not a whole different instance. A lot have defederated from them, but that shouldn’t affect those apps.

Try using www.hexbear.net instead. That should work.
