FYI: Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito — both of whom accepted luxury vacations from billionaires — could rule on an upcoming Supreme Court case that would ban a federal wealth tax.

If they don’t recuse themselves, why would we expect Americans to ever trust SCOTUS again?

@rbreich I wonder what their position on a special tax on SCOTUS judges would be.

@rbreich

We don't trust SCOTUS *now*. The fact that absolutely nothing has happened in light of the conservative judges' extreme corruption means this latest thing also won't mean anything besides adding yet more evidence of their extreme corruption. And then what?

@birdpoof @rbreich keep calling your representatives. They need to know that the voices on TV aren't ours

@rbreich

Their 'trust' has been bought and paid for

@rbreich Meanwhile working- and middle-class Americans have to pay wealth taxes on their biggest assets—their homes and cars.
@rbreich
I think we’re already over the trust threshold.
@rbreich That ship has sailed. We are headed into oligarchy (if not there already).
@jlippertcohen @rbreich We've been an oligarchy since 1776.
@ubergeek @jlippertcohen @rbreich We never really escaped the aristocracy, did we? We just kind of replaced them with home grown ones and held them at arms distance. (We at least had elected officials instead of a monarchy.)

@rbreich

I've never trusted them in the first place.

@rbreich Its been quite some time since the American public gave any credence to the SCOTUS.

@rbreich

That's going a bit far!

...assuming it will ever be possible to trust the Subprime Court again.

...damn spell checker. That was supposed to be Supine.

@rbreich
That train left the station long ago and wrecked about 5 years back.
@rbreich
Does anyone remember when Alito got upset during a State of the Union speech when Obama said Citizens United would corrupt elections? Good times.
@rbreich
Does someone believe they truly care whether we trust them?
@rbreich what makes you think we trust SCOTUS now?
@rbreich You think Americans trust them today?
@rbreich HAVE THEY PAID TAXES ON THESE LAVISH GIFTS they "forgot" to declare on their federal forms? No one in the media asks or answers this question...
@rbreich
does anyone trust them now? I certainly don't anymore.
@rbreich Dude, the odds of them recusing themselves is about the same as wallstreet suddenly starting to lobby for the wealth tax 😂
All the people yelling at the lefties over the years defending the system helped build this by ignoring the problem as this fffed up situation was put in place
@rbreich They should be forced to revise. They lack the integrity to recuse themselves.

@rbreich

Time to ADD to the court and wash these cheats BS out.

@rbreich Assuming they CARE what we think of SCOTUS.
@rbreich Trust died a while ago. Or, at least, it did if attention was being paid. The “good” President shovels money to the companies burning the planet, while the boogeyman lurks. “Democracy” as it exists will kill us all anyway.

@rbreich I keep referring back to the luxury tax in the game Monopoly, where paying extra taxes for the rich was just part of the game.

The past 50 years of more intense and expensive lobbying has normalized the influence of money, and we are now seeing the logical conclusion of allowing campaign finance to run unchecked.

Nixon almost lost the vice presidency because he accepted a dog as a gift 🙂

@rbreich Some of us don’t trust them now.
@rbreich Knowing what we know now why should we trust them at all ?
@rbreich Do not believe we have any reason to trust SCOTUS now.

@rbreich

I have not trusted the SCOTUS since December 2000, after they voted a second time to elect George, son of George.

Why is it that *now* is the time, y'all are considering that they just might not be trustworthy?

It is a serious question.

Bush v. Gore
Citizens United
"Racism is over"
Dobbs
...

No really, why now?

@rbreich who in their right mind would trust SCOTUS right now? SCOTUS is openly, flagrantly corrupt. Not to mention McConnell’s disgusting denial of Obama’s nomination. SCOTUS is another instrument of minority tyranny at the hands of the republican traitors.
@rbreich
Way too late! I haven't trusted anything coming out of SCOTUS since Clarence Thomas' first day as a Justice

@rbreich

We already don't. Until we get a few justices replaced (like... maybe... 4 or 5).

@sabrinacostell3

@rbreich after the last three I don’t trust them now.
@rbreich Good thing we don't trust them now!
@rbreich all taxes should be abolished, period. It is grand theft of the most communist order.
@rbreich I don't think the public trusts them now and recusing well I think it's a little late for that look at how many cases have come before them some of them even brought by Clarence Thomas's wife...❗❗❗
