@arstechnica You can’t fix the McDonald’s ice cream machine! It will upset the natural order!
@arstechnica @lisamelton So, wait- Our whole National McFlurry Nightmare is an enshittification/right-to-repair issue?
@gorfram @arstechnica @lisamelton Yes, it's a contract that McDonald's signed that prevents anyone else from even attempting to fix the machine. And the company has terrible service.

@arstechnica

This fully supports my theory that fancy appliances for rich people fall apart more often and are just service schemes for people who won't notice and can afford it:

"Noting that Taylor purportedly makes 25 percent of its profits from service calls and charges $350 per 15 minutes of service [...]"

I find myself conflicted though because this is awesome but really only benefits a giant corporation; but maybe there will be other indirect benefits ie. public education because this is a much more tangible situation for the mass public than a John Deere tractor...

Maybe local repair shops will start to pop up again... let's not let Ronald McDonald be the only beneficiary here...

@arstechnica It's absurd that McDonald's ice cream machine is at the center of the DMCA debate. What a truly pointless situation.

@arstechnica Proper authorized ice cream can only be made with the blessings of the Ice Cream Machine Priests!
