@netspooky @asonix I disagree with this post, but from a different perspective.

We shouldn't try to make piracy mainstream. That will just make studios and the industry clamp down HARD on it with additional legislation and enforcement and make it more difficult.

Piracy only continues because it's really niche. If your random non-techie started doing it en-masse, it would ruin it for everyone.

@zorinlynx @netspooky @asonix There's only so far the industry can go before losing revenue to accessibility barrier they built. Besides, "anti-piracy" legislation did not happen because of piracy being mainstream in general sense.
The reason piracy went further into niche was because of convenience and (at least for a while) affordability of streaming services.
@ironcatzion @zorinlynx @netspooky @asonix 100% this. We had it good there for a while, when you only needed maybe two streaming services to watch almost anything you wanted. Then the bastards got greedy again.
